Sorry, gonna 'pollute' this thread with a Mandarin concert
Just back from Hebe Tien's concert at e RWS Compass Ballroom. My first time there - expensive car park
, lousy seating arrangement with all e seats on a flat floor. If u don't buy e most expensive seats u be watching e video screen e whole nite. However e acoustics and sonics are way better than e Indoor Stadium.
The moment she started singing, all was forgiven. Since last year she has been one of my fave female singers. Her voice is not amazing but effortless and playful. She can go high but e magic for me is that she can go high and change that note by wavering in and out, changing e tone or just doing smth I don't expect. Of course that sweet face helps a lot
I really enjoyed e concert... She started out with John Lennon's Love which sets up e theme of her concert. Over e course of e evening, she not only sang e songs from her 2 albums but dabled with Faye Wong's 将爱 and A-mei's 开门见山. Both numbers are so well-arranged that they became her songs. She tried some English numbers which were hit or miss depending on whether u can take her diction and enunciation. IMHO it's more hits than misses... I definitely going to hunt down e originals like Yael Naim's Lonely, Mindy Gledhill's Hourglass and a cute one called Girl With One Eye.
This is e best concert I have been to this year... Actually it's my first concert this year
. Next up for me will be Jason Mraz, Snow Patrol and e girl from Once and The Swell Season, Marketa Irglova
(still pondering over New Order
