Advise On my First Set-Up
« on: May 10, 2011, 11:58 »
Hi Guys,

Very new to this forum and also to the audio world. I’m currently looking to get my first proper set up. Below are the things that I'm currently looking at and feel they are somewhat appropriate for me. Excuse me if I get some terminologies wrong.

Speaker: Usher 520, wharfedale diamond 10.1. Open to suggestions
Integrated Amp: Dared MP5, Glow Amp One or any integrated tube amp with DAC. Do not mind SS amps too
Source: Will be from laptop
Room size: 3 x 4
Music listen too: Jazz to Metal, very varied
Budget: up to 1.2k (including wires)

Noticed that after much research, the Ushers are very good with acoustic and vocal based music, just wondering it’ll be suitable for my kind music I listen to. As for auditioning, is it best to bring my laptop over as I’ll be running all music from it. Might be looking at getting a CDP in future, but that’s not priority at the moment.

Thanks in advance  :)

I've heard ushers s520 with glow one before. Pretty much a good combination as the warm nature of the amp lends a nice balance to the slightly brighter nature of the ushers.

S520 recommended; pump in more power so that it could sing :)
