Hi DH,

how does the Schiit Lyr compare to other amp that you used to own or tested?

I'm thinking of pairing it up with Senn HD650 (if I get it eventually).

Thanks

Cheers

And so I ended up getting the HD800 on the advice of two seriously poisonous friends! Finding a matching amp was also a bit of a challenge and I am glad I waited for the Schiit Lyr.

I think the cheaper Asgard or Valhalla may already have enough drive.

Depends on yr tastes. Asgard is ss. So drier punchier more dynamic to me. Valhalla is more fluid.

Both are class A designs. So they run hot. Have a listen at Audio Iconic.

I wasn't really into desktop amps since I was more into portability. I did use a LISA III XP/LLP combo which I ended up using at home. With the LLP, I found the LISA to be provide more juice so it wasn't just for charging.

The LISA had a balance between clarity/details vs warmth which was sorta between the Asgard/Valhalla.

It was also why I held off on buying either once I knew the Lyr was on its way.

Yes, I do enjoy and continue to listen through headphones (admittedly, this becomes less frequent) even when I very much enjoy my 2-channel speaker set-up.

People often ask if headphones are better than speakers.  My answer is they are both very enjoyable, but very different.  My choice of using one over the other is often dictated by mood or circumstance.  Other times, it is decided by the music - mainly classical, some jazz and the occasional pop - I want to listen to.  If I feel like listening to the 1812 overture (the Telarc recording with the real canons), I would of course choose speakers for the more physical bass impact.  If I feel like have a close-up listen to nice solos in a large scale orchestral work, it will be headphones - no question about it.

So here's a toast to headfi and hifi!

Drove the HE6 with this -

But the Headfi community in indonesia is very vibrant and passionate.
The love to share their gear around even with strangers whom they just met to talk about it.

Anybody wants to have a meet?
I have a function room in chaichee for about 10 bucks an hour.
Or if anyone wanna host? It will be cool.
Maybe we can have a small gathering and get together during the june hols over a weekend.
Anybody interested?

Pointless to just talk only and no listening.
This way you can meet fellow enthusiast and test out new gear.
Don't have to be a big event..

I put ASI sugar cubes inside the german maestro GMP240.
haha changed the dynamics and sound in a very unique way.

Made my plastic cups sound like wood.
Bass became more meatier..

The bass part is I took out the dampnening and it's totally open can now.

While packing my stuff, I unearthed this gem that I bought years ago. The Yuin PK1

I remember looking at it in disbelief.. it looked like the bundled earphones of a cheap MIC MP3 player. And while I forgot the price it was going for, I couldn't even believe I had to PAY for it :P

But then I couldn't believe how good it sounded so I ended up getting it anyway :P

http://www.head-direct.com/product_detail.php?p=2

OK some googling revealed it's selling for US$160 bucks. Geez. You can get a much more macho looking triple.fi pro for less money than that.
:)

But I just plugged it in and this little baby still impresses. Yes it is made in China. Many things are today :P even that B&W speaker.

I stopped using it because I was using my headfi gear when I was travelling so noise sealing was a higher requirement. Which is a shame really.

Because of its shape, it's actually quite comfortable too.

And because of how it looks, I could probably leave it in the office and not have to worry it being stolen. haha

are the schitt tube amps "humless"? i.e. totally dark background?
maybe the human ear isn't good enough. we need measurements, figures, numbers, calculations to tell and convince us what good sound is. or do we have to satisfy an unspoken insecurity??

Movers came by for the second pick up. Now I feel really really deprived.

Focal Solo 6 Be packed and on their way.

Thiel Powerpoints packed and on their way

Heck, even my Schiit and HE6/HD800s are no longer in the room.

All I have now are the my UE11Pros and my ALO Cypher Solo and RXII amps.

Good thing the Fedex package from ALO arrived with the Solo/RXII interconnect upgrade and UE11Pro SXC upgrade cables. The HD800 SXC cables also arrived, but can't test them w/o the HD800.

I never thought the UE11s were shabby but even with the ALO upgrade, I miss the airiness of the HD800s and the HE6.

Hope running in the cables helps.
