You must buy those carpets that are highly recommended by Steero File , Wat Hi Fly.
They can tell you which one will give sweeter highs , wider sound stage ,etc etc.

Yes carpet helps. Hard surface is not good for sound as it reflect and mesh it up. I read some post in this forum using silk carpet is the best which cost few $K!

Why not just throw few blankets on the floor first to see if it helps before heading to ikea?

It is priced reasonably and quite a lot of choices. Try to speak to the carpet, check whether it has some kind of absorption or not (a bit crazy but I got my carpet from IKEA also, choosing the cheapest and has the most absorption). I think it costs me about 120 for 2m carpet.

Works best if you also use ikea drapes and furniture  :o :o :o ;) especially effective for ABBA singles
I have a pile of stuff that pushes out squiggly waveforms from smaller squiggly waveforms that sometimes come from 1's and 0's.
It's wonderful to behold as long as you don't let the magic smoke out.

Life is short! Enjoy the music while it plays, when it stops, there might be a chair for you...or  maybe not.

Get a thick carpet, the thicker the more effective. Ceramic tile floor is not too good especially if the area is large. I don't know what is the correct term for the type of carpet posted by Garbage. That pile may be made by artificial fibre and not wool, hence it doesn't provide too much absorption. The idea of a carpet is to absorb the reflections of high frequencies as much as possible, hence the thicker the better.

As an add-on, you mention your room is small. Usually the sound reflection is not only due to the floor but the surrounding walls. You need to treat the walls as well.
