Hi All

Sorry to revive this dormant thread but i am thinking of venturing in bel canto. Just need to ask whether the Ref500 is the same as the S500 (stereo power amp)? When i read around it seems to be used interchangeably.

Thanks.

I believe Bel Canto recently revamped their line up.

It used to be:
REF175S stereo
REF500M mono
REF500S stereo
REF1000M mono

The REF500S and REF500M used the same B&O 3rd-Gen ICE module - which IMHO was better than the 2nd gen used in the 1000M. The REF500S and M models also shared the same input buffer which increased the input impedance a fair bit - handy when partnering with tube preamps.

The 500M also included an upgraded power supply board - which the REF500S did not have - due to the space limitation of the same enclosure.

They have since been superseded. Last I checked they only have the REF500S (no M) and the 2 mono block models (500M and 1000M) have been replaced by a new model REF600M - which uses an NCore module IIRC.

End of Line - Derezzed
