As requested, I have evaluated the sound quality between the older OOP Stranger SACD (right) vs the new MFSL version (left).

The nwer MFLS version sounds a little better mastered, with slighly richer nid...but just slightly.  I don't think there is signifacant improvement tp arrant another purchase if you have the older OOP SACD.

Now come the bonus, when I playback the OOP SACD on  Multi Channel, WOW! the listening experience is a vast enhancement.  Voice clarity, instrument placement, it's all so "3-D".  You don't want to listen to the stereo version again.....either on OPP or the MFSL SACD (no multichannel on the MFSL version).

When Mobile Fidelity was releasing the Patricia Barber SACDs many years ago, my audiophile friends were advising me to run out and grab all her SACD I could find in the CD outlets as they are probably the best sounding SACDs ever.  It is no wonder they went OOP so fast and used copies are going between US$100 to US$300 each.

Despair no more as her "Modern Cool" is now available in full glory 5.1 multichannel (only stereo tracks available on her SACDs)

The sound quality is so "Tok-Kong"....rich, cosy transparent vocal in the centre and enveloped with a rounded thick double bass.....so shiok!!   Play it loud, so dynamic and no signs of strains or distortion....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Go and hunt down her new Blu Ray Audio!!

Thank you for the review, I do not have the OOP version but gotten the MF version instead.
I find the mastering is a little different from the rest of my SACD, maybe it's just me.

How you connect your SACD player to your output ? Using coaxial ? Optical ? or Analogue 5.1 cables ?
Find my rear not so integrated into my 5.1. I meant a little soft.

SACD mulitichannel comes from my Denon DVD-A1UD HDMI / Denon Link4  with clock locked to my Denon AVP-A1HD processor.  Stereo track pales in comparison even when I was playing it on my superior Stereo EMM Labs CDSA player.

On track 7, "She a Woman to me"....Billy's piano was busy harmonising from the rear chanels...quite loud.   :)

This is one heck of an album that I've been wanting to own on vinyl but unfortunately prices have sky rocketed. :( The masters are on analog tapes, so original vinyl will be really something. In fact that the CD is already sounding awesome.

There’s no point in having great presentation unless you have the content. I’d far rather talk to Einstein on the telephone than talk face to face to a doorman in a hotel. - JV

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
For years, the recording industry has asked fans to purchase the same music from the 1960s and '70s over and over again, via remasterings, repackagings, and, of course, reformattings. The Doors' box Perception (get it?), cleverly packaged as... a door, does hold some astonishing music, but the thing itself is a weird hybrid beast with multiple formats for every release. Each of the group's six albums has not only been re-remastered (this time by the remaining band members plus original engineer Bruce Botnick as the "40th anniversary mix"), but loaded up with a bevy of previously unreleased bonus tracks. But that's not it--for each album, there's a companion DVD, which includes a whole new 5.1 surround sound mix with more tracks, as well as the usual DVD extras, i.e., photo galleries, lyrics, and videos. That makes 12 discs, much of it essentially redundant. If you're cool with that, you're in for a treat. From the spookier, unissued version of "Indian Summer" to the entirely new tune "Push Push" and some super-rad footage of the band rehearsing L.A. Woman, it's easy to fall in love with this swirling, highly sexualized, and often brilliant band all over again. --Mike McGonigal
