Some tube buffers can be placed between pre and power amps.

There's a discussion on the Yaqin a couple of months back. Pretty cheap but effective. I was originally introduced to tube buffers in general after hearing the Musical Fidelity version (they had two) but both are already out of production.

There are pricier versions out there ( including those with XLR connections etc).

Not sure abt the Musical Fid, but the Yaqin is a cathode follower with a low pass filter.

Re: Marantz PM 8003 is a winner?

If you read the latest WHF mag, it shows the 8003 scoring 4 stars. Big deal you may say...

But wait... look what it was compared against... Roksans, Naim, and other amps costing about 3 times its cost in SINGAPORE.

So it is relative and it is another reason why we have such a big following of Marantz in SG due to its good competitive pricing...

Cheers

PS: the CD and amp 6003 have just been released too.

According to some folks in echoloft, the KI Pearl is in SG?
Anyone seen it and knows how much it costs?

Cheers

Saw the KI Pearl combination at Alpha Audio (SLS branch) over the weekend. Sorry, did not ask the price as I only notice it when I stepped out of the shop.

I was there to ask about the Kandy K2 integrated amp, which is going for S$1.9k.  It caught my eye as I rarely come across an AV equipment that managed to garner awards from so many magazines -- What HiFi (5-stars), Hifi Choice (5-stars), Hi-Fi World (5 Globes), and HiFi News (Highly Commended). FYI, the amp comes with a back-lit learning remote and support HT bypass!
