Pretty near my work place. Not much food around , although the food centre is there but options are pretty limited or repeated. Generally a quiet place to stay. Appreciation potential with the completion of the Greater Southern Waterfront.

Man, property hunting is really hard. I have been viewing condos on and off for 2 years still cannot find a unit I like.

First consideration is location - I want to continue staying roughly near my home area, in the west. Originally wanted near MRT, but now I given up on that criteria.

Size - This is the most difficult. My family doesn't host parties, and my kids spend more time in the bedroom that anything else. Hence we don't need or want a big living room and dining room. Rather we want big bedrooms for the kids. Most of the condos I've seen are the opposite with huge living room and small bedrooms.

The units with big bedrooms are over my budget - e.g. Pandan Valley / Dairy Farm with total size of 2000+ sqft. I have yet to find a 1200sqft condo with bedrooms that are at least decently sized like older HDB flats.

http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/housing/govt-estimates-doubling-of-new-housing-units-in-the-next-1-2-years-lawrence-wong

SINGAPORE - The number of private residential units available for sale is expected to double or more in the next one to two years, Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong said on Tuesday (Nov 14) at a dinner gathering of developers.

A large portion of the supply will come from the redevelopment of projects sold en-bloc, on top of that coming from the ongoing government land sales (GLS) programme. With more than enough supply to meet housing demand, Mr Wong urged buyers to do their homework before making a purchase.

To drive home his point, he noted that the vacancy rate for private residential units has been at above 8 per cent for almost two years. The last time vacancies were at such elevated levels was more than 10 years ago, in 2005.

"What this means is that, in terms of actual physical units, there are currently more than 30,000 vacant private housing units - all still looking for occupants," he said.

"This is more than the total number of dwelling units in the whole of Bishan today."

I wonder if the number includes those owned by foreigners for purely investment purposes (and possibly, an occasional holiday home)?
