yeah the reviews were good. the 683 floorstander even better with FST cone surround technology from the 800series and Nautilus tube-loaded, aluminium dome tweeter, its the closest we can get to the top of the range B&Ws.

Have listened to the 685 on 3 occasions. Impressive vocal performance, decent speakers for the price of <S$1k. However, the finish and build quality really leave alot to be desired.  :)

Had auditioned/heard 685 & 683 at Monsoon. Was really impressed with its sonic dynamics - clean and power. However, it was matched with very X equipments also.

Then recently, a brief A/B audition bet 685 and 800series bookshelf at KEC. Though the 8xx supposed to be the better ones, I prefer 685 - more balanced sonic, though less punchy than 8xx. The 685 was matched with Cyrus 6-series (CDP and amp). IMO, though only a bookshelf, it beats Mission floorstand E34. For stereo, 685 is bagus  :D

Frankly, I am at the crossline whether to dive in for the 683 and HTM61, to replace existing Mission 774 & 77C. Alternatively, Monitor Audio RS6/RS8 and RSLCR.

I am put off by its Chinese label  :-[ and CHEAPO Look and Feel. That could be the MAIN reason why I am NOT overwhelmed by the temptation. (ahem) at least the MA RS-series LOOK Xpensive ;)

If you are Monsoon do check out the M&D Ruby in action. This is one bookshelf that can go real low, crisp on the mids and crystal clear on the highs.

I'm planning a new pair of speakers for my NAD 320BEE (small room). Currently using Aegis One. I wonder if my amp and the B&W 685 be a mismatch? I listen to alot of rock and metal music. Thanks.

why dont you bring both your amp and source to the shop selling your intended speaker and then listen to them in action..
nothing beats that imho...:)

considering the music you like, I hope you already have a sub to compliment your BSS.

Sorie.....it means Made in China  :P  The finishing is also cheapo......though MA RS6 is now also a Chinese label, the finishing is impressively robust, solid and look Xpensive  ;D
