The two newest receivers from Marantz - the SR5006 and the SR6006 - are designed as replacements to last year's flagship SR7005.

What happened to the SR800x series?

Haven't really been paying attention, although now that I think about it, there hasn't been a new 800x series AVR since the 8002, which is already quite old.  Unless at the 800x level they've split them into processors and power amps, since the 8003s are in two parts?
There is no dark side of the moon really.  Matter of fact, it's all dark.

hmm.. wat does the 7005 loose out to 6006 ? looking at the specs, the only possible significant difference is 6006 using Analog Devices SP21487 400Mhz while 7005 is using  SHARC 32-bit.

bro don't let the specs get to you.
If HT is your need, convert to the Denon 4311 for the highest Audyssey or get the 7005 for it's power and finally let the sound be your guide. Hopefully for you since the 7005 is older, you can get it cheaper.

If audio quality is your main thing, just add a decent 2nd hand stero amp, eg an audiolab

Pete, thanks for highlighting the 4311. Before u posted, I look around denon website where it indicated MultEQ XT for 4311, but after u mentioned u're upgrading to the 4311, i searched more & discovered the thread here on "Denon AVR-4311 Audyssey MultiEQ XT32/SubEQ/DSX/full 11.2/HDMI1.4".

Do note bro, its XT 32.
XT is also available in my 2809. And the max that Marantz goes to is the second tier which is XT, i.e. the version in my amp.
Even for those not keen on the 9.2 or 11.2, the extra filter is what XT 32 offers. Anyway, this should be in the Audyssey / Denon thread... we can continue to discuss it there... cheers

Just a word of caution, apparently, there are 2 version of SR7005 for sale in HK, 1 is Japan made and the other is china made.China made 7005 is cheaper. I don't know Singapore still selling the Japan made ones or already started selling the china made model.please check the country of origins when you make purchase

Yes it's available in shops. I think its around 1100-1200 range. I just bought the 6005 since I don't need network.

It looks like the SR 5006 & 6006 have moved Marantz into a more level playing field with the other major HT makers:
http://www.areadvd.de/lm/AV_Hardware/test_marantzsr60065006.shtml

24 000microfarads.. that's impressive and will mean the two amps are fairly decent in power and with their new HT capability, they can now give the other makers a run for their money.
