Hi Marantz Seniors.. would like to seek advice on my 4001 avr.. been working fine till today.. Tried to do speaker volume level balancing using avia disc & encountered these 2 probs:

#1 - my front left volume level is very soft & Front right volume level VERY loud, even setting front left to max setting (i.e +10) & front left to minimum level (-10) doesnt help.

#2 - when i entered avr setup mode to adjust speaker level setting, avr vfd shows left channel but sound coming from front right speaker & vice versa. However, when i played avia disc's speaker identification test, sound is coming correctly from all 5.1 speakers only the front left too soft & front right very loud..

Tried swapping front speakers & cable but the prob still there??? Sad thing is that this avr less than a year, it was a wedding gift to me from my work buddies, so i have no receipt as proof that warranty still valid..  :-\

Are you able to direct the pre-out of the left speaker to the rear surround which you may not be using?
That may allow you to use the amp unit of the rear left surround as the front left.
Otherwise, I think the unit amp section of the front left is kaput. Weigh repairing vs a new amp...

Hi All,

Please advice which should be used when watching movies. Pure Direct, Source Direct or Auto?

I thought Pure Direct is best for Music.

Thanks.

Just to inform bothers out there who are interested in buying SR4002.

The local version of SR4002 only has HDMI V1.1, instead of HDMI V1.3 switching and V1.1 repeating for US market.
It only comes with 2 HDMI input against 3 input for US market.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believed for S'pore market, better check Marantz EU site for specs instead of Marantz US.
Anyway, Marantz products in S'pore are generally priced cheaper than US, unlike Onkyo ;D
Having said that, I returned Marantz SR4002 that I had for a week and opted for Onkyo 605.

I emailed Marantz yesterday to see if I could get some more details regarding the new AV8003. I was surprised when with in about 10 minutes of sending the email I got a call back from their product manager, which was able to to provide some additional detail.

The AV8003 looks to be a very exciting product:

First I asked about Video Processing. It does not appear that they will be using a HQV chip or Faroudjia. He mentioned they would be using their own video processor. I didn't know what that actually meant if they were planning on using a version of GENNUM VXP processor which is in their projectors or if it was going to be similar to the video processing offered by their DV9600 DVD player.

The AV8003 will be one of the few processors that will be offering not only audio streaming but also video streaming via the network connection. He mentioned that they were able to streaming 1080p content from a NAS device to the processor as though it was another video source, decode it and output it via HDMI. Very cool feature if I understood it correctly.

The AV8003 will be offering Audyssey room EQ the MultEQ version (not the pro version).

Expected release date will be the end of April early May.

I asked about pricing and he said the combination of the AV8003 and the M8003 will be tracking some where in the $5000ish range USD. He said they have not made any firm decision on price nor had they concluded what the price would be if the units were split up.

audited pure direct on SR8002 and SR7002. personally i prefer the SR7002. but clearly the SR8002 was very detailed all rounder.

pete, does toroidal transformer needs warm up before it can really perform?
