So only one HDMI to a 3D ready AVR and 3D ready AVR to PJ?

Good news...No need to buy another 3D player.

Unfortunately for me, my TV doesn't support 3D...  and neither does the AVR, I don't think.

actually just for laughs someone should try... Since Sony can do 3D and lossless with their HDMI 1.3 only player, this is an interesting development.

I would, but offhand I don't think I have any 3D discs either.  But I'm sure sooner or later I'll end up buying one simply because it's in a bundle.

bro, see francis' reply below:

Minimum 1.3a hdmi for 3D but you may not get full 3D HD depending on your HDTV.  On the safe side, use 1.4..... :)

Makes sense I guess.

HDMI 1.4 increases the pipe size so you can do 3D video @1080p60/120 even up to 4k resolutions as well as full HD audio 24/192 up to 7.1 LPCM

Strictly speaking 1080p24FP takes about same bandwidth as a 2D 1080p60 so there may be room to squeeze in HD audio which would fit in a 1.3 pipe.

The PS3 can't increase the size of the pipe being 1.3 limited.

But it's programmable CPU allows it to be reprogrammed to do other stuff where a regular 1.3 fixed chipset BD player cannot.

ps francis may be referring to old cable spec: 1.3 vs 1.4 which is now replaced with high speed vs normal speed.

3D and 4K just requires the HDMI cable to be certified for high speed.

No more 1.3 or 1.4 etc already.

Just look for high speed certified, arc, ethernet etc when you need these features.

Quite a number of older 1.3 HDMI cables can support 3D in shorter runs.

"High Speed" is relative.  What is high speed today will be slow speed tomorrow.  They should use some objective numerical indication.  1.2, 1.3, 1.4 are quite meaningless in themselves.  Maybe they should say, 8 Gbit/s or 11Gbit/s, that way it is very clear.
I can't afford the best equipment.  I can afford above average equipment that sound like they are the best. :P

New PS 3:

SAN FRANCISCO: Sleek new PlayStation 3 consoles took their places in US homes on Thursday as Sony tapped into its video game prowess to put itself at the heart of Internet-age entertainment.

The PS3 model that made its US debut was slimmed to be stylishly unobtrusive but featured a beefy 250-gigabyte hard drive to store more films, music, games and other digital content.

A version with a 500-gigabyte hard drive will hit the US market on Sunday. The models are priced at US$249 and US$299.

The 500-gigabyte PS3 will be released in Europe on Friday with a price tag of 299 euros (US$386). A version of the console based on Flash memory was set for an exclusive debut there on October 12 for 229 euros.

"While we certainly use gaming as our foundation, the PS3 is a complete entertainment centre in the living room," John Koller of the PlayStation hardware team told AFP.

"We added higher hard drive space because consumers have become much more digitally inclined; it is a significant area for all of us in the industry."

Memory capacity for consoles has become increasingly important to users as lifestyles shift to downloading games, films and other digital content from the Internet.

Sony has ramped up its PlayStation Network online service for games, movies and music and made free games available for PlayStation Plus members.

More than 4,000 games have become available for download for PS3 since the console was launched in November of 2006, according to Sony.

Sony completely redesigned console innards, reducing volume and weight.

"It is certainly a cleaner, sleeker model that takes up less space and looks cool," said National Alliance videogame industry analyst Mike Hickey.

However, he noted, new PS3 models might have to come with a price cut to lure a significant number of new users to PS3 this late in the life cycle of the console.
