Thanks for the info. It also seems that they do not decode DTS-MA internally since this is not mandatory. But are there any HD DVD that has an DTS-MA track?

Surprise, receive the player this afternoon, no call, no email in advance, luckily family members were around to receive it, otherwise...

for some reason(probably for their own good only), the player cardbox -- 51x42x15cm = 5.355KG, was pack in another bigger box, Dimension :  60 X 46 X 21cm = 9.66KG. since Vpost take the highest measurement, in this case, vol weight, I just paid $40 for air space between the boxes. the bigger box doesn't provide any protection at all, in fact, the smaller is throwing around in it...



contrary to what the forumers said--i'm not blaming anyone, i do not get $25 shipping charges, i get $105 before 15% discount by UOB, even though i check with VPOST toolbar with UOB credit card. IMO, the toolbar is a pain to use, theres no clear step by step guide, and no direct email to contact help. it seems vpost is more interested to lure customer with the claim $25 but don't really care to provide the detail to get it. anyone successfully get the $25, please, tell us how you did the steps. not for my benefit since i will think thrice to use vpost again, but for other who interested.

anyhow, in case you guys dont already know the inside of HD-A30, I had open it up to see.

Strange that you did not get the $25 shipping charge via the UOB toolbar. I ordered the A3 and A30 separately and I was charged $25 shipping fee each time. But I had to pay GST for my HD-A30, and that was about $30 more.

Can be done. Look at the promotional titles in the link and remember the three titles you want. When you use the VPOST toolbar, select the same 3 titles and add to your cart. When you checkout at Amazon, the 3 titles' value will be deducted from your total.

so did u purchase the player through VPOST toolbar ?  if u have purchase through VPOST toolbar, you wld have paid for the shipping and GST upfront after you confirm the order at Amazon. 

Some details on the process of ordering using VPOST toolbar (DOES NOT apply to the normal non-VPOST toolbar purchase):

1. Install VPOST toolbar on Internet Explorer.
2. Select "Amazon" in the toolbar's merchant list drop down and click go.
3. Log on using VPOST ID at the log on page.
4. You will see a VPOST-Amazon collaboration web site, predominantly in red.  Interface is different from the usual Amazon webpages. It'd be useful to use another browser to open the normal Amazon webpage as a reference since it's more user friendly.
5. Select your products and add to cart.  Shipping charges will be reflected in the toolbar itself.  Any changes to the cart items (remove/add) will result in the new shipping charges captured in the toolbar.
6. If there are any special webpage in Amazon, eg, the BOGO deals or additional 3 free discs for Tosh HD DVD player, you will not be able to see them at the VPOST-Amazon webpage.  But the discounts will still apply, since they're applied only at checkout.  Just manually search for the items and add to cart.
7.For the big items like the HD DVD player, VPOST toolbar will charge flat $25.  Although there is a cavaet that if the item weighs more than 3kg, they will recalculate, so far, i believe all of us did not encounter this.  Instead, they will just process and ship the player to us without any request for further payment for shipping.
8. When you're ready, click checkout.
9. You will see the normal amazon checkout page.
10. At credit card page, key in details of your UOB credit card.  It is important that you always select "new card" and key in the details manually all the time, and not choose an existing card in your account (even if it's an UOB card).  The VPOST toolbar will not be able to recognise it without you keying the numbers again.
11. Review your order and make sure the discounts / rebates are accurately recorded.
12. After you confirm the order, wait for a pop out page from VPOST to ask you to pay the shipping charges (and GST if applicable (>SGD400)). Follow through for the payment using your UOB card.  You shd get 15% shipping charges discount, AS WELL AS 3% rebate based on the total cost of the order you just placed at Amazon.
13. You will not receive any email confirmation from Amazon at all, since that will be sent to VPOST for their matching with your items when they arrive at VPOSTUSA.  You will receive shipping notifications from Amazon though.
13. When shipments arrive at VPOSTUSA, they will not prompt you to send them invoice, since they've already got it from Amazon, AND that you've already paid the shipping to VPOST when placing the order at Amazon.  They will process it and ship to you.

Thanks for the details steps, should be very helpful for those never use vpost toolbar before. if only vpost themshelve bothered to list them.

I have done all the steps above but cant recall if i had step 12, all i can remember is the "$10,000" lucky draw i accidentally click on. I did not get email asking me to pay, i paid cause the page in vpost indicate $105 shipping charge. and i paid with UOB credit card. probably have to wait for UOB credit card bill to confirm if i have pay twice or just $90.

Just ordered the A35 for US$389 from Amazon using the UOB Vpost Toolbar.  The biggest surprise that I got was that I was only initially charged S$25 for the shipping from US to Singapore.  Upon completing the purchase at the Amazon side, I got a second surprise when the Vpost shipping charge ended up at S$4.62 after a 13% shipping discount of S$3.25 and a 3% merchant rebate of S$17.13.  Add on to it a GST charge of S$40.80, my total shipping + GST charge came up to a measely S$45.42.  Damm good value man.



The total cost for the player came up to S$630 which is still way cheaper than the stupid $1018 that our beloved Toshiba Singapore is trying to charge us.

my tosh a35 arrived on boxing day from fedex...what a surprised that FedEx delivers on a holiday in HK...anyway i read through the manual and the A35 is spec at 120v. However my transformer is 220v to 110v, is this ok?

on a side note, www.ipsparcel.com will be my forwarding agent in US going forward. Their service is quick and efficient. I paid USD200 for FedEx Economy shipped 21st arrived 26th. I have 4 packages all together at 20lbs. A35 is 13lbs and the other 7lbs is the free 3 HD-DVDs and J&R box of 12 BDs.

My LCD is HD-Ready(1366 x 768) and only accepts maximum signal input of 1080i. Doesn't support for 24fps. Will I be able to watch HD-DVD using XA2/XE1 ? Can I set the player to send 1080i instead of 1080p?

Yes. Can experiment with 720p output, too. Make full use of your Reon chip.

i did not receive any email confirming the payment, as a first time user, i really don't know what to expect from vpost...

anyway, i just call vpost, they said system did not capture my submission...whatever, I'm too lazy to pursue the issue for ~$60, just took it as a lesson learned--never to use vpost again.

Thanks Phil. You and other bros here further helped me in deciding between XA2/XE1 and A35. I realise it's better to get XA2/XE1 (instead of A35) for my case since my LCD does not support 24fps.
