Selling projectors is one of the more difficult thing to do......

Basically, Singaporeans do not like projectors.  I sold my HS20 for almost 25% of my purchase price.  Very few people understand the value.....the one who bought from me is one happy man  :)

It doesn't help that new model is better and yet cheaper. For example the Mit HD1000, a 720p DLP, can be had for $1700 incl shipping.......I lost alot of money selling my last pj :-[

Maybe Karlie you can try ebay or something.......

I will put it on ebay.
But the last time I put things on ebay, people of xtremeplace were complaining it was "too difficult, lah"

...Word of advice for anyone looking to sell their projectors, follow what Desray is doing, let it go soon after the new model is released and you might still get a good value for it.  Drag it out of warranty, you'll be lucky if it does not end up as a good door stopper..."

That's what I usually do...and it gets me going so far in a way that I can play with many brands and models...the idea is not to wait for 3 years down the road and expect to fetch a good price...by then newer model will surface and more often than not, the model you are holding will be discontinued (its been a trend always especially so for Panasonic Projectors - now what AE900 has now been replaced by AX100?!) Phew! But one thing about Panny Projector is the fact that their price remain pretty much the same even though its a newer model...and guess what only Contrast Ratio, additional HDMI ports and perhaps the more recent change of D4 to D5 LCD Panel so on and so forth...

Now I will most probably be like Jag, stay down for awhile to wait for the price to be stable for DLP 16:9 (1920 x 1080p) based Projectors in the market and grab it. A reasonable price range should be around $5 - 6K max. Anything more means we're actually paying for the premium as early adopters.

The question Des is whether you or Jag has higher depreciation? My guess is that it is about the same, while you got to play with a lot more projectors :)

It seems to work this way with cars. I always thought that my friend who changes his car every year (he occasionally browses this forum) was extravagant, while I tend to change every 5 years or more. However, when we sat down to compare the yearly depreciation he exprienced against mine, it was the same!

for cars in the last 5 years, that might be true cos of the COE fluctuation. but shouldn't happen usually as most cars depreciate more in the 1st year. anyway, that assumption only applies if u continually buy stuff in the same price category.

Most products depreciate more in the first year.
After 2 years it will already be rock-bottom.
After 3 years it depends more on the state of the thing (was it nicely take care of, any defect, any problems, repairs, etc)

Changing and selling stuff every new generation or using it till it for long time, depreciation actually stays the same.  Depreciation is not top important factor since electronics get obsolete rather quickly and thats expected from day one. Its obsolete the minute we pay for it.  :P

I would want to get a good projector that can last for at least 3-4yrs, and I dun hope to get a resale value out from it when that time comes. But in that 3-4yrs, I know I get full satisfaction and I dun worry about the hassles of selling it on the 2nd hand market (I hate that hassle, especiallly in the small and expert-filled market like HT pjs).

 XGA (4:3) is for PeeCees.
