If you're going for Floor Standers, $1K for AV Amp, Main Speakers and Center Speakers is definitely not sufficient.
Are you using them in the Living Room or Bedroom?

1K is very tight... consider getting a pair of front speakers & a AV receiver 1st.
Pay 4 better quality model then slowly add ya other components.

Ifiron,
I've got a pair of floorstanders plus matching centre speaker to let go. The brand is Sound Dynamics and is under the same parent company of Mirage and Energy speakers. There are canadian speakers and is very good for HT and musics IMHO.
http://sound-dynamics.com/
My floorstanders are the reference series 616. Its a 8ohm 90db. One tweeter and two x 6.5" woofer. The centre is the cinecentre. I am looking at 400 for the three speakers. You will be left with 600 for a decent DD/DTS amp. Do you have a DVD player ? Anyway IM if you wish to discuss further. Audition is welcome.
Cheers
