Question about UHD discs
« on: August 20, 2020, 10:30 »
Hi there,

I noticed some UHD discs play in letterbox format (1917, Alita), while others in full screen (Lion King 2019), on my 4K TV. The settings are the same for both and I am using Sony's X700 player.

Simple math.
WS2.4:1 vs WS1.85:1. TV standard sized @ 16:9 aka WS1.77:1.
Which movie can fill up the screen-scape more?

To achieve same picture height of WS1.85:1 movies to be the same(or close) WS2.4:1.
It's either u toggle on the "Aspect Ratio/Zoom" on ur TV(which may differs on options), or get 2* device, setup 2* settings of outputs.
*1. 1st player u set it to default output 16:9, limits to play WS2.4:1 letterbox.
*2. 2nd player set to output 4:3 Fullscreen Letterbox, to play just those WS1.85:1 movies.

Extreme case... if u're so bugged/annoyed by black bars above and below of the screen whenever u are playing WS2.4:1 movies...
USE Aspect Ratio adjustment/Zoom to crop the sides of the picture to zoom in to fill up ur screen.
