AV Amp Auto Shuts Down
« on: June 28, 2020, 22:27 »
Played about 20-30 seconds, hear a cracking sound on the FR speaker and the amp auto shut off. Tried another time same thing happened. What's wrong? ???
I buy hifi to suit my music, not buy music to suit my hifi.

Any chance your speaker cables shorted each other?

No, setup was playing normally past few weeks. Checked spk binding post, amp's spk output. Seems as usual. Maybe I try another pair of spk cables.  Thanks

Yeah can try on different cables. Can also unplug all speaker cables and slowly plug in one by one and see which the issue.

Happened to me before I started to use banana jacks. It was playing well then out of the blue, AVR shut down. I checked all the cables, all ok but AVR still shut down.

My guess is something is wrong with the AVR. Something going to give way soon.

Let's cross fingers. How old is your amp? @Chowbotak

Maybe can try play at lower volumn and see if it shut down again. If nothing happen at lower volumn , likely you clipped the av amp only.

Thanks bros.Am using an Onkyo 820. Bought new from Germany 2 years back as I dont like the black version sold locally. The auto shut down happened even when I played at low volume.

One thing to add, one of the house cat managed to slip into my av area (area is partitioned by invisible grilles). I found it hiding behind the speaker in question so not sure if it urinated on the spk post. No smell tho ;D And the spk cable looks alright, no bite marks no smell

Same thing happened to my Onkyo. On n off I hear the distorted sound from my left surround. Confirmed its not the issue with my speaker. Occasionally it will shutdown by itself after giving a pop sound during a show. It finally gave way by shutting down on its own within a sec after I powered on. I removed all cables n tried but it didn't help. Factory reset didn't help either.

Thanks guys. I'll try cleaning up the cable connectors over the weekend to see if it helps
