Cheap Rear Speakers
« on: June 20, 2020, 19:04 »
Anyone has any good recommendations for cheap rear speakers?

I use the Kef egg currently and wanted to see if there's a good cheap alternative to replace it so i can use the Kef egg for the computer instead.

I use the KEF eggs for my surrounds too, and for ATMOS (3000SE series). Love them.

The KEF eggs are fantastic for the value. Wide dispersion which is impt for surround and has a very seamless sound field.

Used pair of KEF eggs now is already at a very low price point. 100+ for pair maybe?I reckon it will be hard to find anything near that at a lower price, unless you don't mind sacrificing quality.

How much is your budget when u refer to "cheap"?

Price may often reflect on the built Size wor... Want to sound good and compact, pay more lah. If size not an issue, full size built ones delivers good sound and impact.

I personally prefer bookshelf for my side/rear surround so it will produce some bass there.
Sattelite spk will be too 'dry' but it can be used for ceiling surround.

If you use good spks for LCR then must make it balance for your surround channels also...
Better don't use computer speaker bro....

Hey buddy,

Just itchy finger cos my pc no speakers.. I probably may just leave it at the end and get cheap speakers for pc at the end anyway.

Just thought that the egg may make great pc speakers and get more usage.

2nd hand eggs are not cheap..

Small built it may, but good enough for surround.

If I may recommend, the Bose 251 works quite well for surround duties. I managed to snag a used set several years ago. Very happy with the performance.

No ah got many models... E.g. HTS3001, HTS3001SE, E301, 200X series etc etc. And now there is the active eggs too. Current newest model of the passive kef eggs is E301 I think.

Check out the used hts3001se series. They are pretty good for price. And the angling flexibility is super impressive if your mlp is at a tight angle. The e301 (I had a pair for 1 month) can't tilt that much...

A used pair is abt 100+

Plus if u are using KEF speakers as your LCR, then better to use back KEF for surrounds for the timbre to be more similar
