How can I get woody?
« on: October 05, 2019, 09:34 »
I need to cut 4pcs of wood platform for use with equipment.
(CD transport, DAC, Turntable, Pre-amp)

Size: 527 x 398mm
Preferably 2" thick.

Question:

Solid wood or plywood better for sound?

What material you recommend?

Go where to cut?

Will they polish for extra fees?

Sat/Sun are they opened?

Many thanks in advance

look for marine ply if they have it...most dense and solid, but you will have to layer it and glue and clamp or use weights to bond it down

I have a pile of stuff that pushes out squiggly waveforms from smaller squiggly waveforms that sometimes come from 1's and 0's.
It's wonderful to behold as long as you don't let the magic smoke out.

Life is short! Enjoy the music while it plays, when it stops, there might be a chair for you...or  maybe not.

Managed to go to Ban Heng Long on Sat, and cut 4 pieces of marine plywood.
Total cost: $88

Individually they sound "resonant" when I tap on their surfaces.

Should I be concerned?

Should I try to dampen the resonance?

What's the best way?

If your concern with resonance, the best way is to cut alum sheets of 2 mm thick to the size of your boards & stick them together using contact adhesive. This will damped it out.

Cheers
