So many recommendations but so far no comments on sonic signature. I too am in the market for a great sounding dac. “Great sounding” to me would be a dac with an organic and a little euphonic sound character with no listening fatigue. If a great dac to you for example ...is Super transparent, detailed and revealing .... it will be opposite for me. Critical to state preferences...at both ends. Eeeks.

Because listening is a subjective thing. Best to try them out and decide yourself

agree.

But very tough to do for DACs not sold in SG. Importing is like rolling a dice. I’m lucky I really liked what i imported...

Just thought it would be more productive to state preferences or sonic character when recommending ... as it would perhaps narrow the search. Eg (only example ah)...” please intro me a charbor with an “exciting” personality. Without indicating what would be exciting to me (I meant adventurous type actually) ... Sekali kena intro to a slut because slutty is exciting to the person recommending. Or ... recommend me good restaurant. What kind of food u like? Spicy ah? Etc etc ... easier mah.
Waste time.  Hehe. Joking nia. Sorry to hijack. I always thought it’s always best to describe sonic qualities ... though it’s subjective of coz (almost everything is) ...it’s still better than nothing at all.

The Chord Qutest has a very refined but somewhat polite presentation. Regardless of what Rob Watt thinks, I did find that the choice of power supply will have an influence on the sound. Used stock, the iFi has better resolution while the Denafrips models in the same price bracket are of similar levels of performance. Add the MScaler though, and the inner beast will be unleashed.

Less is more !

Absolutely agree with Andy. For eg. if Andy has recommended what is best for himself to Joamonte, it may well be exactly what Joamonte doesn't want

I guess why Joamonte didn’t lay down his preference is perhaps he may want to explore all the options at the budget level. He himself will audition and so on, I don’t see anything wrong here if one is keeping all options open?

Actually not saying that thread starter did anything wrong at all. Just noticed initially  that there were many recommendations but no one commented on sonic character at all. I always thought that would be important...for everyone concerned.  Recommendations would indeed be more targetted for sure... which would be a good thing. Limit the time wasting tikam tikam effect for one thing.

Even if you have the budget for a $2,000 DAC, try a $200 DAC like the Topping D50s. It may give you what you want given the marvels of mass produced Sabre and AK DACs together with Chinese manufacturing....

https://shenzhenaudio.com/collections/decoder-dac/products/topping-d50s-es9038q2m-2-dac-bluetooth-5-0-ldac-dsd512-32bit-768khz-hi-res-audio-hifi-decoder

But if you are determined to spend $2,000, then suggest you go to Adelphi to hear for yourself. Auralic at hifi.com.sg unit #01-23 sounded sweet and tube like to me. Plus, at Adelphi there are dozens of places with different DACs in your price range to hear for yourself.
