Amazon Fire Stick 4K thread
« on: August 08, 2019, 00:32 »
Just picked up two of these on sale for USD25 each in the USA. Quite a bit cheaper than an Apple TV 4K and seems to do the same thing. In fact, the Apple TV app is coming to it later this year, so I should bet able to watch my iTunes movies on it.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/3/25/18280615/apple-tv-service-roku-vizio-sony-lg-samsung-compatibility-event-2019

Unfortunately am still in the USA and won't be back for 2 weeks, so can't tell you how well it works on a 4K TV. I have access to a 1080p Sharp LCD here and hooked it up. It's very very responsive compared to the previous Fire TV (non-4K) that I have and audio quality is much better than the Roku 3 attached to this TV currently. One thing it does well is to translate Netflix Dolby Digital Plus to DD 5.1, since the receiver here can't talk DD+. I can also install a VPN on it directly. Overall a very polished product, but I will have to see how it handles HDR. It does BOTH Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ so will be interesting to stream say, Alita and see if the HDR 10+ lights up on my Panny OLED. Amazon are apparently putting in HDR 10+ for most of their Prime titles. At a fraction of the price of the Apple TV 4K and with the Apple TV app coming, can't see any reason to buy an Apple TV.

I grabbed one last week too, but it wasn’t on special  :-[ , I don’t have 4K tv so can’t comment but the older flat 4K fire tv works great. I grabbed a sidekick remote ir universal remote for mine for $10 on special...to control the a remote power and input plus volume and tv on/off...that was a good buy.
I have a pile of stuff that pushes out squiggly waveforms from smaller squiggly waveforms that sometimes come from 1's and 0's.
It's wonderful to behold as long as you don't let the magic smoke out.

Life is short! Enjoy the music while it plays, when it stops, there might be a chair for you...or  maybe not.

I almost went ahead with this on prime day, then held back, for one main reason. It doesn’t come with wired connections RJ45, it’s wireless.

How is the wireless streaming signal ? Does it affect the pic quality etc ?

But yea, can’t go wrong with USD25! It’s a steal, does 4k HDR Nd Dolby vision

It is optional for the wired connection ...

Read that Atmos is not supported for Netflix on the firestick 4K?

Even the expensive Google Chromecast ultra also dun support Atmos. I recalled Roku Ultra support Atmos.

At the moment yes. But my Panny UB-420 blurry built-in Netflix app is able to playback Atmos as well. Also if you have Xbox One S/X console, the Netflix app can also playback Atmos as well.

Hi, I am planning to get a fire stick 4k this coming black Friday. Few questions I would like to ask those who have it.

1) Does it support YouTube 4K?
2) any problem streaming uhd rips from NAS? (~60gb file size)
3) support Atmos?

Thinking of getting 1 for my movie room as my current Android player Zidoo doesn't support Netflix 4k. Another one for the living room TV as I am having issues playing 4k files from my NAS (not sure if it's network bottleneck or TV processor bottleneck)

I am considering Roku as well.

Get Roku 4K stick instead. It’s more stable and it has a better WiFi connectivity for smoother streaming.

Have u tried wireless AC streaming for 4K mkv movies? If not possible then I'll just get 1 for the Netflix 4k in my room.

I never try to stream a 4K MKV file. But a Netflix 4K streaming and YouTube 4K with HDR all no problem.
