what is a good 4K player with atmos
« on: July 29, 2019, 08:20 »
Hi All

I am looking for a new streaming device to plug into my Onkyo receiver and  4K TV. Ideally, I want it to be able to passthrough on Dolby atmos.

Thank you

Most of the players as long as they can pass thru Dolby TrueHD should not have issue with Atmos. Atmos is more of receiver side capability

What is the source for your streaming?
Netflix? Amazon Prime?

I have build my own FreeNAS server with all my movies and Tv shows stored there.  I have been using plex to watch my shows but not been happy with the audio output.

Thank you

Any disc player can send out Atmos signals, provided if there's any Atmos track embedded in the disc.
Source is source. Processing is processing. Whether TS gets Atmos/DTS:X, it's dependant on the source, as well as pro-processing stage equipment such as the processor of the AVR/Pre-amp.

I have no issue with my Zappiti. There are others using the Realtek chipset which does up to 4K HDR and Atmos/DTSX with no issues.

Only thing is no Dolby Vision or HDR10+ support yet.
