I think this whole series of events just sort proved me right what the PRC govt is doing to HK.  Since late 90s they have been pushing to Shanghai to replace as the financial gateway to China, and I'm of the opinion that they have already bypassed HK in this matter. The only reason the major financial institution is still based in HK is due to the more comprehensive laws & regulations which guarantees a safe operating environment for them.

The current "leadership" in HK has done nothing to alleviate the cost of living, housing price etc. I think they just don't care.

A lot of those HKers who have left in the early 90s up to 97, have returned to work and live there. I think this chain of events will cause them to leave again. I think Singapore will benefit form this exodus of people and businesses from HK.

Get ready to welcome more of our HK brothers soon… Back to the (‘90s) Future :)

Emigrating Hongkongers seek stability elsewhere, heading to Australia, Canada, Singapore

After watching weeks of anti-government demonstrations, with ugly clashes between police and protesters and no end in sight, IT entrepreneur Wel Sun has decided it is time to act.
The 34-year-old Hongkonger is set on emigrating to Singapore with his wife and two young daughters.

He has done his sums, seen a migration consultant, set aside HK$500,000 (US$64,000) to move and even checked out property prices near the city state’s Changi Airport. He has told his parents he is leaving, and promised to visit often.

You'll never get to heaven with a smile on your face from me.

Quite a few already move back to Australia. I've seen more  HKers in Chatswood compared to 3-4 years ago.

I think this time more will move to SG then pre97

Scmp can’t be trusted now. It’s an entity of the communist party that exerts strict control what can be printed and what cannot be printed, just like our straits times.

Complete control. Complete censorship.

I just checked the SPH share price. Quite shiok to see it on a steady and seemingly irreversible decline.

A weekend of mass rallies culminated in incredible sights in Hong Kong, where scores of protesters overwhelmed the streets in defiance of a police order, to march peacefully under torrential rains.

Organisers estimated 1.7 million people to have braved the conditions on Sunday, but no major incidents or acts of violence were reported, and for the first time since June, no tear gas was fired.
