AMAZON IS READYING A HI-DEF MUSIC STREAMING SERVICE

MBW has heard this whisper from several high-placed music industry sources, who say the price of Amazon’s new tier will likely be in the region of $15 per month. It’s expected to launch before the end of 2019.

“It’s a better bit rate, better than CD quality,” said one source. “Amazon is working on it as we speak: they’re currently scoping out how much catalog they can get from everyone and how they’ll ingest it.

TIDAL’s ‘Masters’ range is made possible by its partnership with digital hi-def music company MQA. It’s understood that Amazon has not partnered with MQA for its own HD tier.

Whew!! Good thing AMZN isn’t dumb enough to go MQA :)

Are they still offering free access to the music if you have already bought the CDs/SACDs from them?

I'm on Amazon Prime as well, but never actually streamed any music off of them :P. It'll be interesting to see how they're signing up the record companies for Highrez...I'm guessing similar to how Qobuz has done it.

Whew!! Good thing AMZN isn’t dumb enough to go MQA :)

Unfortunately nobody wants to stream MQA these days and the only one is still hanging on the lifeline is none other than Tidal. MQA is desperately in need of fund and they actually approach Napster, a streaming provider to license it to other platforms. Napster itself does not stream MQA, what a joke!

https://www.whathifi.com/us/news/napsters-adding-high-quality-mqa-streams-but-not-in-the-way-you-might-imagine

BS is also desperately promoting its recent blog on MQA too (Have been trying and trying for more than 4 years now)

https://bit.ly/2LmgoMl

MQA is destined to be failure product like MLP on DVD-Audio. It is now becoming clearer and he needs to acknowledge it.

Good. Personally I don't support any proprietary encoding. Let MQA die naturally.

You can try Tidal, but chinese songs may not be as much as Spotify. However you get lossless CD quality.

Amazon Music rolls out a lossless streaming tier that Spotify and Apple can’t match
RIP Tidal?

Amazon is launching a new tier of its music service today, dubbed Amazon Music HD. It offers lossless versions of audio files for streaming or downloading at a price that aggressively undercuts Tidal, the main competition for this kind of audio. Amazon will charge $14.99 a month for the HD tier, or $12.99 if you’re an Amazon Prime customer. Tidal’s Hi-Fi plan costs $19.99 monthly. The new plan was rumored a few months ago.

Amazon says it has a catalog of over 50 million songs that it calls “High Definition,” which is the term it’s applying to songs with CD-quality bit depth of 16 bits and a 44.1kHz sample rate. It also has “millions” (read: less than 10 million, more than one million) of songs it’s calling “Ultra HD,” which translates to 24-bit with sample rates that range from 44.1kHz up to 192kHz. Amazon Music HD will deliver them all in the lossless FLAC file format, instead of the MQA format that Tidal uses.

Amazon’s VP of Music, Steve Boom, tells me that Amazon chose the HD and UltraHD terminology because it found it was more comprehensible to a mass audience than the current terminology for audio quality. And “mass audience” is exactly what Amazon is going for; it doesn’t want Amazon Music HD to be a niche player like Tidal and other lossless music platforms like HDtracks or Qobuz.

The service is launching today and Amazon is offering a 90-day free trial. It will be available in the US, UK, Germany, and Japan.

Another nail in MQA’s coffin :)
