Youtube 5.1 audio?
« on: March 25, 2019, 22:18 »
HI Friends

I am playing youtube videos from the TV App and using ARC back to AVR. I can't seems to get 5.1 at all and wondering if its normal. The amp is showing Dolby 2.0 and PLII Movie mode.

I wonder if it's the settings of the AVR or TV.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTHtXgnhqfM

Pls test this clip if you can and see if 5.1 lights up.

Thx

YouTube has been in Dolby 2.0 for more than 2 years now, especially on vevo music , the videos are also capable of HDR10 since 2017, and HLG too.

Haven’t experienced discrete 5.1 on YouTube , will check it out, thanks for the info

Only a handful of YouTube clips have 5.1. The only media player that currently support Youtube 5.1 clips is the nVidia Shield TV 4K.

In general most YouTube videos are in stereo. How ever you can use your AVR up mix capabilities to listen to it in 5.1 or there after.

Install Ubuntu on you laptop which has HDMI.
Install Pulseaudio in Ubuntu
Install firefox browser
Go to sound settings to 5.1 or 7.1 HDMI which ever your amp or avr supports.
Now open youtube on firefox 4K videos or any HQ videos and see the output you receive in your AVR
