Living Room and Solo Den - I am a Starke man
« on: March 16, 2019, 22:50 »
Finally almost completed my HT upgrade/setup for my living room and small solo den

Initial plan is to move living room Missions speakers to my solo den and buy new sets for the living area.

Peng came and made big further improvements on my sibilance issues with the Missions (after I have change my cables). Relieved.

Then home trials with the Starke BRIO series and dual SW12 subs. Super improvement. Very Happy.

Replace Onkyo AVR with Denon and further tuning. Super Happy and Sold. So much that I decided to buy another set of Starkes for my solo den.

Living Room
Denon 4500
Starke V62, VC62, VS61, 2 x SW12
4 x Gallo Micros for Atmos

Solo Den
Onkyo 730
Starke VS62, VC62, VS61, 1 x SW12
4 x Gallo Micros for Atmos

I am a happy man.

Now need to improve acoustic for the solo den. The empty wall behind the seat is a concern.
The mattress in the pic was used to test for sound absorption, then realised leaving it there can act as a headrest. Lol

Thanks.
I really like the 2 different sound experience in the hall and den.

Den is personal and sound effects is very  distinct. Think the curtains on both sides of the wall contributes. LoL

The hall feels like a bigger stage and the effects is like more enveloping.

Not sure whether i explain it correctly. 😁😁

Initially have my doubts on the small den but am glad I do it.

Glad you are happy with the setup. What matters is you enjoying it. That’s the key nothing else matters.

if the channel select is "Surrounds" n u stick it flat back on a wall, I would rather reassign it to "Surround Back's" n forgo the purely surround left channel n right channel...
Surround channels in the new generation layout is "PURELY" supposed to be to the left of your earlobe, n to the right of your earlobe..
as in placed left n right of your head.
of course not placed so close to your head!!
hehehehe!!!

Lol...small room...can't help

Have some reservations before as it goes against convention but decided to take the plunge. Did not regret it. Different feel from my living room setup. So much so that I watch the every movie twice since these are setup...Lol

for tonal quality n consistency, getting speakers from 1 maker is applaudable.
however should surround design hv it's limitations on placement, then opting other makes for surrounds is acceptable. if i‘m U(...actually 2yrs later), i would rather go squarey than flat. or... hv the surrounds placed above my head, pointing down。

Today while listening to some music with my wife, she turns to me and comment how come it sounds so much better now.

Now one must understand in our 27 years of marriage she had never comment on my sound hobby, either in $$$ spent or setup result.

Makes my day. :)

I am looking forward to the day when my wife says that rather than "why must turn on so many things just to watch TV?" 😄😄😄
