This has certainly piqued my interest.

Anyone knows who carries Wharfedale in Singapore?

( A quick search suggests Par Audion @ SLS ? )

The Chinese company IAG bought over Wharfedale in 1997 and produces the Wharfedale Denton Anniversary few years ago. The old Denton were good speakers in the 70s'. With the success of the Denton Anniversary, they now want to revive the Linton series also from the 70s' and early 80s'.

Honestly, if you can find the vintage Denton, Linton or the original W series such as the W25, W35, W45, W60 and W90, they are great buys. They have the warm vintage sound which in my mind sounded better and more natural especially driven with low output transistor amplifier or tube amp. The old series Wharfedale are hard to come by because they are very well built and are collectors' items.

Check Carousell - there are some listings for this for around $2k. You can do a check with City Electronics (Sim Lim Square) too.

First of all.. LOVE how well designed these speakers are. Even the stands have matching wood finishes.

Don’t expect bass with good body from these speakers.

It would be a mistake to listen to these speakers and try to be analytical.

Even from the first note, the speakers are engaging and enveloping and full. Partnered with the Audio Research VSI75SE and the Lumin D2... the music never feels harsh. I put in a recent Tina Arena song that I knew was going to be harsh. It wasn't. I thought I was mistaken so I played the same track on a pair of 705S2s and no, i wasn't mistaken. The Linton feels like an engaging sound that often catches me by surprise. I use it in the foyer - which resembles a normal living room with hard floors, windows and a rug and it just comes alive. I have tried many speakers in the same space, and they invariably disappoint. Most speakers need to be in a reasonably well treated room to sound good.

But whether I have the volume up or down, it's a stunning speaker. And while I am working, a song comes on and I am swept away by the music. Goosebumps moments.

I can’t say I really warmed to the sound of the SHL5+ or the C7.

It feels like they are trying to get an LS3/5 to extend beyond what they are comfortable doing.

The Radial woofer is asked to stretch to a lower register that it shouldn’t. So the bass is a little bloated and uncontrolled. That’s what I feel about both the SHL5+ and C7. The SHL5 then adds a super tweeter that I feel doesnt complement the sound.

The Linton sounds IMHO like Harbeth’s Monitor range - which I prefer over the C7/SHL5+.

The M30.2 uses the same drivers as the C7 but doesn’t try to extend the bottom end. It sounds more natural as a result. That’s what the Linton and Denton sound like.

If anything, the Linton sounds like a smaller (much smaller) M40.2. The bass still doesn’t go low. But it has a dedicated 8” woofer just to handle the low frequencies. And the midrange driver focuses on the mids.

Really tempting.

M30 sound like listen to master tape or CD , neutral but sometime no surprise, all music sound as correct as expected ; SHL5 more like LP , added some coloration but at the same time alway give listeners some surprise even the recording is very familiar....

I feel that Linton fall somewhere between the M30 and SHL 5, not as accurate as M30 and not as colourful as SHL5, also , I feel the mid and Low mid is a little overwhelming compare to Harbeth, also less resolution and detail I heard in my Friend place ..... but no doubt it is great value!
