Is that generally true for white (brighter but more affected by ambient light) vs grey (not as bright but better blacks and less affected by ambient) wall? Also considering Screen Goo. Or have there been any new offerings in Singapore in the last few years?

Having a proper screen material is about getting uniformity and smooth projected surface to match with the higher resolution projector. It will have black border to absorb the stray lights and provide a better visual during viewing . Having a screen means you also can sell it off as used item .

The tone of the screen like grey or dark grey will have an effect on the projected image . It also have better blacks . Provided the screen material matches properly with the projector type .
