UK plug terminated audiophile power cords
« on: January 31, 2019, 20:57 »
I've noticed this a while, and recently confirmed it searching everywhere.

There are no UK (Singapore style 3-pin) power plug terminated power cords.

How come?

Thanks in advance.
Daniel

Available from Alpha Audio. I cannot comment on the power cords, but I have used the IC and SC. Good value cables.

Let me ask a related question. Based on government regulations, okay to install uk socket without on off switch?

Not approved. but some friends i know placed a on/off switch beside it, some even got a isolator switch(like those big ones for aircon.)
in local context, switch is necessary to off the power in the event there is a need. there is no audiophile grade switches tat i know of, apparently nobody in the industry manufactures them. simply remove the switch and good clean power comes thru.

yeah why have to be sad? safety got safety way to do it. its all in the mind. some i know still living with stock power cords for the longest time. i am not sad for them, but wasted they have missed so much fun a majority of us have been enjoying. met some retired uncles some time back sharing we are wasting $$$ on cables, plugs whatever snake oil they may seem. the most common comment is 240volt AC is 240 volt AC. no more no less. once they hear the difference...... anyway just enjoy.

You have a link to state clearly that this is not approved?

Thanks for the links bro...I don’t recall many audiophile gears have the Safety mark on and that alone put many of the products we use at risk...Actually some of the non audio gears also don’t have the safety mark. So you got this fact there but I don’t think we have a solution in this hobby.

That said, my earlier post was referencing to the question of having switch at the outlet. I doubt there is any info available to clarify that...even medical outlets are available with no switch since the mains are protected.

The key is Safety Mark

Download pdf, go to page 8 to look for key word switch.

https://www.singaporestandardseshop.sg/product/product.aspx?id=8e382df8-5696-45b0-ab21-0dcf5ce07257

Thanks. there you go mousike. its called CP5 my electrician just called me.
but lots of technical jargon. did not explicitly define that a 13A wall socket UK point must have a switch.
search thru NEA also do not hold any information.
Somemore need to pay $67.40 to download 79 pages of the whole pdf file.

Malsound, thanks for the link.

DJQ, yes it’s a costly doc and scanning it thru indicates apparent standards available for both Switched and Unswitched outlets. So I am not certain an Unswitched outlet is noncompliance. Anyway, like all things in this hobby - plays with a little risk :)
