HDMI 2.1 won’t be ready until mid or end of the year, SOC just released last October 2018...

Hopefully we can see bigger screen OLED TVs at lower prices , or micro led

I think it's still too soon for "real" 2.1 TVs. I'm sure all the TV manufacturers will try to market "eARC" as new "HDMI" upgrade, but I would be extremely surprised to see any real 2.1HDMI TV in 2019. Samsung has already indirectly said that they will be offering free upgrade to new one connect box (with real 2.1 HDMI) for all the high end models of 2018 (Q8 upwards I think) without any charge once the 2.1HDMI one connect box is available, when quizzed if this would apply to future tvs (2019 models) Samsung readily said "yes, it will also apply to 2019 models", which indirectly gives away that they are not ready to with real 2.1 tv.

But what will be interesting is that I believe there will be more 8K tvs or at least prototypes from others as well to match Samsung's Q900 from last year.

I'm fingers crossed that LG announce support for HDR+ & IMAX ENHANCED as well. They might as well throw these two formats into the mix & become the sole TV manufacture to offer every HDR available in 2019, they really have nothing to lose but everything to gain. I wonder what really stops them from adding HDR10+ to the mix.....

If I can, I will 'tahan' until 2020, when HDMI 2.1 TVs will be more pervasive. The first few sets will have their own set of issues, especially if the rest of the chain is still HDMI 2.0b
But TVs are long term buys so it's best to be up to date, even if the specs seems a bit of a an overkill now.

My prediction:

1)More native 4K projectors .

2)Better sounding Dolby Atmos sound bars .

3)Smart home integration (Alexa - Google Home) into pretty much everything possible .

4)More new Subwoofers with app EQ, built-in wireless receivers & fancy DSPs .

5)New AV processors with support for 13 channel processing.

6) A consumer grade micro-led TV from Samsung (prototype)

Hdmi 2.1 is here...

If there is anyone who will be doing it, and capable within the shortest time frame, it will have to be the Koreans getting the HDMI 2.1 SOC to work flawlessly...

And finally we see LG’s strategy continue on the OLED, priced retained, new features added... lol.. the cycle continues

Lots of chatter on 8k TVs, but that's not so practical given the viewing distance, and also the lack of software..
Monoprice has a new processor.. that's interesting.. and it appeared before Emotiva put one out there..

I thought the Emotiva one was already on sale since November ?
But got pretty bad reviews on the AVS Forum

219inch microLED from Samsung sounds promising. Imagine 10000nit brightness at 8K resolution!

We can finally have true large format HDR, bye bye projectors!

I would hold off on too much hope for HDMI 2.1 for now, last I heard even the test and validation equipment manufacturers are not ready so even if some of these TV manufacturers are claiming HDMI 2.1, they might not be conforming to the full spec and we could expect the usual teething issues like incompatibilities between brands & equipment etc during the early days.

I think best bet is still when the AV receiver folks start offering HDMI 2.1 for a sign that it's reach some form of stability
