Choosing projector- Benq w1700 or TK800
« on: September 21, 2018, 11:35 »
Hi guys,

Its been a long time since I last posted, good to see the seniors and regulars are still all around. Recently shifted to a bigger home so I actually bought a Epson EW-TH5350 1080p projector and have been very happy with its performance.

However, coming back to the forum and started reading that 4k projectors are really affrodable now and I have narrow it down to either the Benq TK800 and Benq W1700. It seems that the diff is brightness vs color.

I will be using it in my living room ( so no light control but my Epson with 2200lm seems to do ok during daytime viewing). Screen will be Cyrus fixed grey screen 100inch.

I have not seen a live demo for the 2 but I am leaning towards TK800 according to the 20+ reviews and AVS forum discussion that I have read. So I am just wondering what are some of your thoughts on this. Thank you in advance

Hi bro,
Did you also replace your HD screen to 4k-screen ?
How far is the distance from your PJ to screen
And screen to MLP (in cm) ?

 :)

yup, with the zoom, can be bigger but since I have a fixed screen, decided to stick to 100inch, quite happy with it.

 :)

Most of the good screen material comes from US or Europe they are already has been making very hi resolution surface even before 4k has arrived .

The physics are very simple , projection is base on light pixel bouch of a surface . Be it reflective , retro reclective or diffusion if you see the image is sharp and clear chance it is hi resolution finish .

Obviously most company will try to market their products as 4k ready or 4k endorse . That means you have to pay more for it .

On these post Cajun22 is using a grey screen to get more contrast as the LCD panel from Projector which has leakage . This will provide a better blacks for those high brightness and with lost of white wall surface around .

Now with other option like black screen surface ( needs bright projector ) , silver screen ( standard HT projector ) or ALR ( UST PJ )

Screen material has come along way compare back in the days .

I have been using the TK800 for the last couple of months and I am very happy with it. That price ( if indeed true) is a damn good price.
