What a mess.

It just looks more complicated that it really is - and it includes a lot of non mainstream brands

Pretty much all the mainstream brands will do:
HDR10 and HLG. HDR10 is used for media and HLG is used for broadcasts.

Some will add on Dolby Vision or HDR 10+, so basically 2 competing formats.

Technicolor is just a BS video mode that LG uses. If they wanted to be really pedantic, they could have included Panasonic's HCX or the new DTS/IMAX Enhanced format.

I always wonder why HDR is a "feature" why not just make it a defacto standard feature for 4k, no need to mention so many standards.

All I can see is that it is being used as a marketing tool for software and hardware and consumers get confused and need to upgrade all the time.

HDR10 And HLG ARE de facto standards now but many 4K TVs were released before the UHD BD format was released.

LG could (should) just add HDR10+ to their tvs next year & be the one brand that covers all the different version of HDR !

not as big a jump between HDR10 and 10+ - unlike Dolby Vision

The only redeeming feature for the HDR10+ is the dynamic metadata which analyze frame by frame...but STILL we are looking a HDR PQ curve.

Really hope eventually that all these formats will streamline into a main one & stay. If not it's more problematic for us consumers to keep upgrading video gear just to keep up.  :/

History repeats itself.

4K will eventually settle to a defacto standard.

When 8k comes, vendors will try to differentiate (take for example the 8k video/22.2 audio demo by NHK several years ago at IBC) therefore create different standards, confuse market for a while, then settle on defacto standard again.

Repeat. Repeat.
