New CDP or used CDP?
« on: May 05, 2002, 23:46 »
Hi.  I wanna get some advise from the gurus here.  I have a budget of $1300 for a CD Player.  Should I get a new one or get a good high-end but second hand of about $1000?  Somehow, I think CD payers should get a new one as technology is always on the move.  Moreover, there is this HDCD, DVD-audio, SACD formats available.  Hmm...if you were in my shoes, what would you get?  If get new ones, got any recommendations?  Heard that Exposure CDP is good.

Thanks  ;D

the only concern would be the age.. older CDP tends to have faster laser pick-up failure.

how old is "old"? i'd put it around... 5 yrs?

juz my personal views.

Yeah, I guess 'old' means not more than 4 years old.  Scared if buy an 'old' one and then it gets spolit within a year, I will 'bang' one.   :o

I would go for the Rotel RCD-1070. Given the fantasics sound at a low low price. The built looks very solid and heavy too. Have audit the 1070, treble warm bass tight.

Exposure not too bad, but I would go for the 1070 with a pair of good interconnects.

I recently bought a 2nd Hand Cyrus dCD3 Q24 with external power supply. It's abt 1.5 yrs old with burr-brown 24bit DAC. Cost me S$1.2k, and loving it every minute.

Just my 2Cents.
