A few issues with the ZD9

The led backlight is lower res than the panel so you will see haloing greys next to logos in a black background. Like Netflix. You won’t see this on the OLED. crisp black borders.

The HDMI ports are old school circa 2016. Only 2 ports are full HDR 18Gbps. The rest are not.

No BT headset profile. Also cos it is circa 2016 model.

A few issues with the LG OLED C7
Vertical banding. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. Notice it in dim Xbox one displays too now.

HDR brightness is less than the ZD9

Possible burn in issues

$80k for the 100” zd9 I would expect no issues.

it's more than just that, for a 2016 model it's even a whole lot more over-engineered than Sony's top "regular" LED 2018 model, the X90F.  the 55" X90F has only 48 FALD zones (equivalent of about 90 zones in 75" size, assuming each zone remains the same size), and is "only" capable of around 1,100 nits peak brightness.
Yes, being a flagship model, it has the solid build Sony is famous for previously behind it.
But yes, it's also older, so I have been following threads elsewhere to see what I am missing out.. OLED is nice, but not at the current asking price for a similar sized panel. The delta isn't even close, it's more than twice...
If prices drop by the third quarter, well, then there's something to talk about... of course we have to make sure the ZD9 is still available then.. any word of it being discontinued?

You'd be wrong

No matter how many more zones the 100" has, the FALD zones <<<<<< 4K (8Mpix panels).

And the HDMI tech is still 2016 level

there are rumours about a ZF9/Z9F replacement being announced this year, since C8 77" is still one or two months away from SG launch, hopefully you will have enough information to decide then.

If one is looking for 2018 models, one can consider the new Sony X900F  as its also FALD and will be more affordable. It may not be as good as Z9D, I am sure it will be a very good compromise in price to performance ratio. The new X900F will have its processer upgraded to the X1 Extreme which is similar to the Z9D.

Thanks bro, my concern is that the ZD9 has a very attractive price because it's an older model. I hope the replacement will also be priced competitively..
Right now, the SG price for the ZD9 is even lower than the US prices. That's why it's attractive.
Maybe when they discontinue it, they will have a runout price?

Looks like the Dolby Vision firmware update for the Z9D is up in Oz..
I wonder if it will ever see a HDMI 2.1 update..

not all HDMI 2.1 features can be enabled with a firmware update, will need hardware upgrade to meet full 2.1 specifications.

in the US the 75Z9D has been going for less than USD6k, I think Sony has been extremely strict about listed prices, hence it looks from online store search that prices are still higher than in SG. anyway if you compare apples to apples, list price to list price, it's USD7k vs SGD13k.

Yes that's true, but if you look at other TV prices, the gap between US and SG prices is even greater..
I think the main issue may be HDMI 2.0, and TVs last a long time, so it's best to be up to date too...
With OLED prices so high, perhaps I have to look at the other LED TVs... let's see..
