Hi guys,

I ran into some issues with my Denon X4200W.
The red standby LED on the receiver kept flashing.
I read that this means the unit had gone into a protection mode.

I troubleshoot the unit by doing the following:
- Making sure there's nothing on top of the receiver.
- I double checked the speaker wires and there's no wire that is exposed and touching either another speaker wire or the chassis of the receiver.
- The unit is receiving the proper voltage.
- I also tried removing all the speakers from the unit then adding the speakers back one by one but to no avail.
- I reseted the unit's microprocessor (power+back+info) and the protection circult continue to trip.

The unit was brought from Alpha Audio and is no longer in warranty.

Made a call to Denon and they suggest me to bring the unit in.
Diagnostic cost is $60 and good chance i will be without the unit for 2 to 3 weeks.

Anyone can share their experience with this "protection mode" thingy and if sending back to Denon is the best option?
I am actually quite disappointed that this unit failed after 18 months...

Thanks in advance

Plug out all speakers.
Plug out power cable
Change to another power point

Reset mode first- the unit's microprocessor (power+back+info) - assume its this procedure
Hard Power down hard button ( not remote)
Hard power on  - see if ok?
If same, reset again
Hard power down and up again until ok
replug speaker 1 by 1

cheers

May I suggest you pull out all the cables, sometime it can be the HDMI cables too.
Switch it on and see. If it's stable, put back the cables one by one and see. If everything fails, then you need to visit Denon..
Please post instead of sending a pm, so more can learn.

Plug out all cables except for power cable. Power on. Does it still go into protection mode?

If yes, ihave a few friends that encountered the same on their denons. Had to change the whole avr.

Called a repair shop and according to them, they said they seen many cases on the denon mid/low range models and earlier series having this issue... not sure how zhun

And thanks all for contributing.
I tried most of the scenarios...
Reseat the wire into the banana plug.
Plug in again front speakers only
Went into protection mode.
Remove all cables except power and front speakers.
Went into protection mode.
Remove front speakers, left power.
Went into protection mode.
Worst experience ever

bad news... not working for me....
no loose cables / power connectors any where....
and the situation had gotten worse.
now it's almost instant from power on to protection mode.

will be sending in to Denon tomorrow.
Hopefully it cost me < $300...
First and last Denon for me.
it's $100 for every month of usage on this AVR.

Now looking out for alternative options, in case this gets too expensive to repair or cant be salvage.
