Solar Panels Anyone?
« on: March 11, 2018, 22:31 »
I am wondering if anyone is using them, and what's your experience like?
Time taken to break even, maybe how to sell back to the grid etc..

Cost, maintenance, what brands and perhaps some links so I can do some reading up too.
Thanks

Unless you own the building you want them on then no chance I think.
I have a pile of stuff that pushes out squiggly waveforms from smaller squiggly waveforms that sometimes come from 1's and 0's.
It's wonderful to behold as long as you don't let the magic smoke out.

Life is short! Enjoy the music while it plays, when it stops, there might be a chair for you...or  maybe not.

It is incredibly affordable in Australia - I have seen a 6kW system for about 7k. But you would need about 20 panels so enough roof space. Plus the N/S/E/W orientation of your roofs will affect if you can get anywhere near the peak.

I got it when the feed in tariff was 48c/kWh and we were charged about 28c/kWh so it kinda made sense.

These days not so much - but you would probably tie it up with a network of Tesla PowerWall. But you would need a lot a lot a lot of panels. Basically enough to use your gear in the day and charge the PowerWall to use it at night.

I am not sure if SG has adopted this new pricing structure yet but over here we pay a daily supply charge of about $1/day. So even if you used no power, you'd still be paying $30 a month for supply.

Did you happen to compare the SQ vs line?

A friend in India who has, shared  LateNight line>Solar (full load)>Solar(less load)>daytime line for SQ. India line power quality is so-so. So one of his motivations to get solar was SQ. It also depends on brand you get, I was told

I’ve been using a PurePower regenerator so I can’t say I’ve heard a significant change when I got it 6 years ago.
