I think with the advent of the 2017 and 2018 models, this app is coming into it's own and deserves a thread to discuss it.

Firstly, which models can use it?

2017:

Denon AVR-X6300H, AVR-X4300H, AVR-X3300W, AVR-X2300W, AVR-X1300W, AVR-S930H, AVR-S730H, AVR-S920W, and AVR-S720W. Also, Marantz AV7703, SR7011, SR6011, SR5011, and NR1607.

https://www.soundandvision.com/content/denon-marantz-launch-audyssey-multeq-editor-app

Denon and Marantz have launched the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app that enables home theater enthusiasts to refine and customize system set-up.
Available for iOS and Android devices, the $20 app lets you go “under the hood” to view and adjust settings made by Audyssey’s automated MultiEQ calibration system.

The app provides full control of every aspect of the configuration, enabling detailed sound tuning and customization. “That means users can adjust the performance more precisely to cope with any specific problems in their room, and tailor the surround experience to their personal preferences,” according to the press release.

Features include the ability to…

•   View Audyssey MultEQ speaker detection results to check and modify the configuration and adjust for unusual set-ups

•   View before and after results of the Audyssey calibration, making it easy to identify room problems and see what changes the system is making

•   Edit the Audyssey target curve for each channel pair to suit individual tastes

•   Adjust the overall EQ frequency roll-off for each channel pair

•   Switch between two high-frequency roll-off target curves

•   Enable/disable midrange compensation to brighten or smooth the sound, making dialogue clearer or taming hard-edged soundtracks, for example

•   Save calibration results for instant re-loading

The app is compatible with the following current Denon models: AVR-X6300H, AVR-X4300H, AVR-X3300W, AVR-X2300W, AVR-X1300W, AVR-S930H, AVR-S730H, AVR-S920W, and AVR-S720W.

Compatible Marantz AV receivers include the AV7703, SR7011, SR6011, SR5011, and NR1607.

Midrange Compensation

Midrange compensation is an intentional dip in the 2 kHz region where the vast majority of tweeter-to-midrange crossovers are. In that region the tweeter is at the low end of its range and the midrange at the high end of its range and the directivity of the speaker goes through major changes. We found that if that region is equalized to flat, the change in direct to reflected ratio that happens because of the directivity variations causes voices to sound harsh (among other things). So, we have this implemented in the Audyssey target curve. With MultEQ Pro you can choose to turn it off, but we don't recommend it. This notion was observed 40 years ago by BBC speaker designers in their studio monitors. They designed their speakers with this "BBC dip" intentionally in the speaker response.

Thanks Pete.

This app still has many bugs when assigning accurate crossover. =/

I've given up using it. Sigh. Hope they fix the issues.

Yes, this is a "must-have" app for all Audyssey users (although not all D&M Receivers can utilise it, unfortunately)...

Usually I will tend to agree with Chris on all his recommendations, tips and guidance on Audyssey which I have benefitted immensely over the years...but for this Midrange Compensation (MRC), I have to disagree with him...You need to turn it off.

Where to get it?
From the Apple Store - you can get it in the local SG store or if you are in the US store, it cost around the same.

For those who intend to purchase the App, be informed that you will need to pay for the same app on two different platforms - Android and iOS. So before you commit, make sure you know which platform you intend to use the app for. I'm using iOS version which many consider more stable compared to the Android brethren...

Hooray! I have tried the app on my iPhone and the cross over setting sticks even after I changed them. Previously, the front channels will go back to 40Hz.

For those using the Audyssey MultEQ Pro Editor, this is an awesome complement tool to help you get more precise readings of the frequency response and its corresponding SPL which otherwise is inacessible. You can also input a more precise Max EQ range. More importantly, you can have more control over the boost/cut at a specific frequency range.

Here is where you can download it: https://github.com/ratbuddy/ratbuddyssey/releases/tag/v0.2.1
