If you have used Pioneer and Yamaha AVR before, Denon sounded thick and heavy if you compared to the mentioned 2. ;D

IMO, they did some nice magic here:
With the DSP chipset, the straighter pathway, the power supply and (yet to be confirmed) the video chipset too.
The net result is that there is still some distance from the 7200, which is one thing which concerns a lot of buyers:
Is it worth the outlay over the 7200.
IMO, the 7200 is a good beast, especially at the lower price. Not everyone needs the 8500. Except bro des of course ;)

Not only that sir,  new volume control IC , amount has been doubled, and now has direct connection to the power amplifier.

And if you have not noticed, capacitors on the audio path of the 13 amplifer PCBAs has being specially selected to improve sound quality.

Yes, I do tried before, to me, not thick but rather slight warmish. Speaker signature play a big part as well. Cheers!

Also for that price, I will rather go for AVP and power amp combo for a better performance though it means bumping the total cost.

Then that your problem bro, if I read the thread correctly, this is for review and setup not about comparing with other AVR or AVP.  ;D

Nothing wrong to compare and mentioned about AVP in this thread as benchmark.

I agree with you.
I always use two familiar movies before I decide to buy.
One movie has a lot of surround effects and boom boom (Hacksaw Ridge) and the other one must have heavy man vocal (Transformer or Monster call).
Use Hacksaw Ridge. It has busy background ... listen to the dialog... clear or not? (must be the same setting ... usually +2 for C over Audy's calibration number)

A lot of factors will contribute to this, one example will be ext amp match with speakers couple with AVR/AVP as an input.
But I know for sure, AVP has different class... !
 ;D

Bro, this time round, no need +2 gain for the center channel ;D
Are you going for marantz AV8805?

Yes sir. But at that time of purchasing of AVR, the Denon X7200WA was $2250 and Yamaha was $2800. Went for the cheaper ones, kinda  regretted my choice.  ;)

Finally Denon releases something which can allow me to retire my 7200WA and 2309 combo needed to power the ATMOS height speakers and free up valuable console space. Need to offload my 4520 first though before getting this or my CFO will skin me alive.

Jan97, does this Monster run hot over extended use as my console has limited height clearance. You running 7.1.6 in your current setup?

Is the Marantz 8012 same as the 8500 in a different badge?

Afraid not
Lower DAC
Two less channels of amps
Process 11 channels
Older DSP chips
Can't do both auro and atmos setups.
Think of it as a 7012 with a toroidal and better caps - same ones as the 8500.

5.1.4 at the moment.Warm to touch at -10db volume after 2 hours.Want to load 13 speakers, better allow some space clearance for heat dissipation.

Yep...we are talking about 13.1 discrete channels, it will be extremely unwise to place the AVR in TV cabinet. Bring it up where it can breathe.
