IMO the twin E112 works very well. Furthermore most AV amps only have two outputs and can only calibrate for two of them. You could use another sub with the centre channel but is calibrated as part of the centre.

No siok lar bro watching action movie with single 8" subwoofer eventhough driven by top flagship AVR8500... I have plan want to upgrade my current subs. Price wise for the same 12" driver JLe112 (×2) > higher than SVS sb2000(×3)
So which one will u bet for good?

Mr colgate, I am not a bass freak. ;D. Maybe that's me, HT is not all about bass. Dialog clarity, spaciousness , micro details, refinements  and dynamics are more important to me. At the moment, I am still happy with the 808 with chapter 8 , JW chapter2.It still tickles my balls with its textured bass.

I read that 8500 supports 21:9 video. What exactly does this mean? Can it stretch 16:9 source to wide ratio?

Not sure why this is advertised but my guess likely to do with 8500 for the first time able to support proper on board scaling for content in CinemaScope aspect ratio like 2.35:1 / 2.40:1. In the past, it usually allows auto pass through or with video upconversion from the source that does the scaling i.e. from Bluray, media players or htpc using the gfx card or software player to do scaling. Hence if this comes as a built in feature to choose scaling for CinemaScope content for AVR to do the scaling for us instead of the sources I have described above...it may reap added benefits assuming the video chooser in board the 8500 does a better job than the sources.

However if we are merely talking purely about 21:9 support on a AVR because it features HDMI 2.0 specs, then it is nothing new...REMEMBER this is still using HDMI 2.0 specs with the ability to upgrade to support HDMI 2.1 for added features like 8K support and higher bandwidth than the current 18gbps could provide.

Without much info, it could be anything...have u Google it?

Tried Google and seems none of the reviews talked about this. Probably it is really nothing new but I am really hoping it supports a on-board scaling to 2:35.1 ratio like you say, then it will match perfectly to my next wide ratio screen purchase.

Can any owners confirm if you see any options to scale output to 2.35 aspect?

In audioholic review, it states this. Not 100% what does this mean for pj without anamorphic lens.

The X8500H can do a vertical stretch for use with anamorphic lenses.

Okay...then it really not going to do any wonders in this case. U see, unlike Oppo Blu-ray players, most of the conventional Blu-ray players don't do vertical stretch for anarmophic Len setup for use with projectors...so it's a bummer for those with anamorphic Len users. But this is going to change if 8500 able to do it internally at AVR stage before outputting the vertically stretched image to the projector for proper 21:9 scaling to work on anamorphic setup.

If this is really what audioholics trying to say...then it will be good news for those with anamorphic Len user base.

Thanks for the explanation ... looks like still got to rely on lens memory to perform the magic then.

I get asked this every now and then, so here's my take..
"How does the 8500 sound compared to xx or xx model?"

Well unless you have the various amps side by side, connected simultaneously or can dismantle cables really quickly, it's really hard to get a meaningful AB comparison.

However suffice to say, each brand has their own house sound, and each model also sounds different. So the Denon sound is more neutral, less sharp or bright compared to what I recall of my Onkyo, Pioneer auditions, and slightly less bright compared to a Yamaha, which makes pretty musical amps too, and just a bit less warm than a Marantz. However compared to past models, the 8500 sounds more like a Marantz, and less like it's predecessors.
On the other hand, in my journey from the 4311 to the 4520 and onwards to the 8500 with stops in between at the 7200 and 7010, the two channel sound quality has not differed as much when comparing between Denon amps.
The 8500 is probably a shade closer to the Marantz sound, but it's not exactly an AB comparison, so YMMV...

Cheers
