Haha...I dun think I want to put up a full review on this since it is very much the same as my previous flagship, the X7200WA using Audyssey. But I will give my 2 cents worth of how the Audyssey Mutl-EQ Editor app can bring to the table. If anything, I found the Setup Assistant getting more and more "long-winded" but fortunately only for the first time setting up. What a PITA. :P

Talking about better switches and resistors...I'm expecting something better and more refined from X8500H which many touted to be the best AV Receiver of 2018. I wonder how much will the upgrade for HDMI 2.1 be in 2020.

Same GUI....bro Pete, did you try the HEOS?

I suggest you turn off MRC in the app after calibration before any subjective listening.
And also correcting full range has its benefits, I have been playing with correction up 500hz, 1.5khz, 2khz and am back to full range now. Reason is with full range you may lose some tonality (not a lot if you place your mic correctly and if your room is treated) but you get a more solid imaging.
Oh, and DEQ is always on at ref=0dB for movies.

Why turn off mid-range compensation? any explanation? While I haven't fully test out, I have a feeling that I will concur with you on this MRC (off).

My subjective experience is with MRC on leads to a slightly recessed mids. If your speakers by design is already dipping slightly in the mids , MRC may accentuate the recessed mids.

How long did the calibration with the app take?

I was trying to do the Setup Assistant calibration and it took too long.  Kids wanted to watch their cartoons, they don’t care if it is calibrated or not.

Heros ? I use it for  the internet radio daily
Also using Alexa with it too

Apart from some stereo music, it’s also been a delight using it for HT. I actually get more details and nuances. And I’ve been using it in my old den and new one, so it’s not just the new place. Apart from the price, and the lack of a tuner, the main gripe is that the app doesn’t come free and we don’t know how much is the HDMI board upgrade is. Thumbs up for the 8500.

About 15 - 18 mins for full 8 positions depending on your pace.
