Anybody using recliner to watch movies at home?
« on: February 01, 2018, 14:32 »
I'm thinking of buying a recliner chair like Stressless for a more comfortable position to watch HT and listen to music. Anyone using recliner in the living room? Do you place it center facing the TV? Doesn't that look weird since the sofa is there? Put the sofa to the side and only a single recliner in the front of the TV also looks weird.

No one else in the house watches TV except me, so functionally speaking it is fine. But just looks weird for house decor.

In order not to look weird, put two or more recliners in front of TV :)

Then it will look like a posh home theatre!

Buy reclining Sofas and save space when not in use. Some brands like HTL and kingsliving allow even the centre seat to be reclined.

I don't know if it would fit in with your room, but you could consider those Ikea POÄNG chairs. The advantage is that they're very light and easy to move around if necessary. I find them very comfortable (although a padded arm-rest would be nice) and for me the headrest angle is just right for watching movies and listening to music.

many who patrol this forum have spent a lot more on AV equipment, perhaps this cost can be justified since it's a much larger part of the body that you will be pampering with this...

do agree with what you said, esp those that bought 30k sony projector or processor, i don't see why not having this sweet recliners to bump up your theatre experience.

I’m looking at the Stressless range for my HT too. Thinking of 3 seats for the first row and maybe 3 or 4 seats for the second row. I find them very comfortable although pricey. Too bad they don’t seem to come with a built-in leg rest though.

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for comparable range for recliners?

Also thinking about buying the stressless chairs/sofa. The current sofa is giving me backaches (if sat too low), and neck aches (if sat high). Saw many nice HT sofas on Google, but none of them from Singapore.

GV gold class seats would be nice!

Any contacts or good recommendations for seats available in Singapore?

I went to htl and am very pleased with a recliner sofa. They do have individual recliners too.  Prefer the look using it for about 2years with no problems but i akso use a cushion to prop up the back

The optional Sonos speaker mounts is a bit gimmicky I feel, as the speaker position is not ideal.  Just for info, you can even put a Sonos Sub under the middle console of the sofa.

Another picture of this contemporary design, this is the previous version King Cloud II, although only minor differences in version III (like slightly sloped side armrest)

Looks super comfy, is it leather or fabric? Mine is just like that too, in leather.

Unfortunately, the large leather surface is very reflective and badly affects midrange balance and imaging... One of my biggest regret and biggest flaw in overall setup... Nowadays I put 2 large cushions either side of me when I'm listening, slightly better..

What's the price for 3 seater at HTL? Saw their site, sofa looks good.

I don't have big sofa, switching to projector got me thinking a recliner is better as your vision need to tilt upwards abit, current sofa no head support so tiring to look up.

This one actually looks good. How is it holding up so far? Would u mind to share the shop?

Look for electric recliner that is 3 to 4 seater. As need to fill up my current sofa that is 3meter long.

3 seater usually only 2m long.

I used the stressless recliner. For HT it's perfect, although need the footstool which is quite lightweight and tends to slide away even on carpet, very irritating.
I also find that for music, the leather is reflective and muffled the sound. That's why I sit on a rattan chair nowadays for music.
For big sofas  my experience is that there is boundary re-inforcement between the back rest and base of the sofa, so that bass becomes boomy and muffled. Again, most noticeable for musical, ok for HT.

Actually there are many nice sofa, my current sofa is ikea one and I do think they are super comfortable, but the problem is no head rest. TV is low, its fine, but projector viewing is higher and definitely need a good headrest to tilt up abit.

Went down to King's Living and tried the Cloud with wife.
We have been using a 3-seater stressless for 5 years.
Find the Cloud as comfortable as the stressless.
However, the Cloud wins over the Stressless in
a. Integrated footrest.
b. 2 memories. I like a bit upright when watching football and more flat watching movie.
c. Options to add light.
So we bought the Cloud to replace Stressless in the home theater.

I find that too high headrest of sofa will impact my surround viewing experience, you guys doesnt face the same problem?

Even I adjusted the speaker slightly higher, when I compare to a sofa without headrest, the surround experience is day and night difference.

Yes it does impact surround panning. For comfort, many would choose full headrest but it may compromise surround panning to a certain extent. The only way is to recline the seat a little.

Been watching movies without headrest for many years . But take note if your seat is near backwall , you need to do some treatment on the backwall to make imaging balance .

By the way , I am looking for a low back recliner chair to replace current seat . Any recommendation where can find one? Or a recliner seat that can take out headrest like vehicle seat ?

So far, I have been using these type. The headrest can be folded up manually or powered.
I feel it gave me both option and easier when guests are around.

Thanks. I am using this for my hall setup . However the single seat is quite wide . It is meant for 1.5ppl for single seat version. Another issue is the back is too thick which will tend to push my listening position quite a bit to the front . I wanted to find a smaller single seat for my room setup .

One thing I dont like about stressless is the footstool. The cushion is fixed to the wooden stand by a flimsy plastic pin thingy that drops out all the time.
The stool is also a bit light, and tends to drift away when I put my legs on it.
