if 5yrs ago didn't spoil. it will last very long. come to think of it. 2310 was my 3rd AVR since i started this never ending route. my 1st AVR was 2307. wasting money as you said.
i think remember bro detuche personally told me we do not always change AVR de. it lasts 5yrs. times like this, please embrace the new Tech.

Get a decent new AVR with 4K within your budget and enjoy yourself. your hard earn money is yours to spend for yourself only. we only share the passion here.
psst... the Audio quality from Dobly TrueHD 5.1 and DTS Master Audio is already vastly different compared to current sound formats.

I don't know about the standard 1100ES, but the region free version is.
I've just finished my thoughts about the player
https://peteswrite.blogspot.com/2020/06/sony-ubp-x1100es-region-free-player.html

I'll say that it's a very decent player and will also give your Redbook CDs a good showing.

Not sure if this is the right thread to post this comment in but as a Sony UBP-X700 user I was very pleasantly surprised and thought some other owners may be interested!

My 10 year old 4-bay Intel Atom based NAS started to give me low disk storage alerts. I then had a choice of either putting in larger disks or adding a new NAS with more bays and larger disks and using my old NAS as a back up for critical files. I decided on the latter and bought an 8-bay QNAP Intel Core I-5 NAS.

Surprised and delighted when I found out that I could stream 4K UHD and 1080P Bluray ISO files directly over DLNA to my Sony UBP-X700 and also my Oppo 205. Appears that the QNAP transcodes the 4K UHD and 1080P Bluray ISO files on the fly. No stutters whatsoever over my GBE lan connection and although no UHD or Bluray menu, full choice of subtitle and audio track selection including the Atmos track via the remote. Super thrilled.

Unfortunately doesn't work as well on my Panny UB820- the transcoding is fine but I am unable to choose the audio track or choose the subtitles.

Will cross post also on the Oppo 205 Discussion Thread in case any Oppo 205 owners are interested.

what resolution does the x1100es output dvd at? 480i or 480p?

The previous x700 couldn't do 480i and I wanted the tv to handle the upscaling rather than passing through the player then the tv.

All choices from 480i to 1080p are available:

The 1100es still cannot do source direct resolution.

For DVD playback (yes, I still have lotsa them), auto will output at 1080p.
It can be forced to 480i manually or to 4k (let player do upscaling). However upscaling wise, the z9d still trump it.

In this respect, oppo is still preferable with the source direct mode.
