When was the last time you heard live music?
« on: May 02, 2002, 10:57 »
For me it was yesterday, when I was walking in an underpass and there was a basker blowing a harmonica.

How about you?  :D

3 weeks ago, in Sydney Paddington's Market, where there were 2 different guitarist buskers strumming away at different locations of the market, and selling their own CDs at the same time. Mind you, these guitarists are of the highest grade, like Ottmar Liebert/Jesse Cooke, and they really had good finger-picking techniques. Bought a CD off each artists...they do not collect donations, only want to sell their own CDs. If you compare Singapore buskers to them, ours are more like beggars, seeking donations from people, with  juvenile musical skills that never improve day in day out. I certainly won't classify them as music, more like wailings and noises. Incidentally, I never saw any blind or paraplegic people busking overseas (except in 3rd world countries like Thailand/Malaysia), only in Singapore, where the govt deems it respectable for them to eke out their own living by busking instead of providing them more welfare and better job opportunities.

Hi TOOL,

Thanks. Yups, it was the SSO in the botanical gardens. It was threatening to rain on the day itself, but luckily the show went on as expected. Didn't quite like the acoutics cos it was too far, too soft and they had to amplify it. But the violinist who played carmen fantasy was great. Guess he must be trying to rest his numb fingers after the concert. Nonetheless, great preformance and stress reliever for the exams.

Naut

I listen to live music every week....

...in church!   ;D

And every month I get to make some of that live music myself....

...I sing in the Church Choir  ;D  ;)

Cheers!

If that can be counted, then I listen to live music everyday, the sqawking of the crows, the cooing of the pigeons, the chirping of the sparrows every morning and evening in the trees.  ;D

Well, philosophically speaking, that is music in a way.  ;)

Some people spend their entire lives trying to differentiate birdsongs, you know.  And of course there're the uncles who bring their pets to the coffeeshops every weekend...  ;D

And you haven't heard me sing either *ahem* *ahem*!  :D

often times listening to recordings is better than being there.

don't have to put up with people talking, handphones ringing, babies crying, technical foul-ups, and worst of all.. half-hearted performance by the artistes.

to me, attending concerts is the excuse for old buddies get-togethers..to see and be seen...and of cos..the dolled-up chiobus *drool*
