Cool, you are correct that Netflix does support Atmos on selected content through the 4k service on a limited number of devices (xBox, LG TC, but not AppleTV).  Apple was always slow to introduce features to the AppleTV unless they offered the service themselves. Many devises could do Netflix at 4K but Apple seemed to only introduce a 4K AppleTV when they decided to do 4K content through iTunes. My guess is they will only do Atmos on the AppleTV after they support Atmos in iTunes content.

I don't use Netflix in 4K since my projector is 1080P but hopefully, that will change by the end of 2018

Question:
64Gb - is it only to store the ones you rent, or do you download the movies you own or if you want to watch it, you can stream it, even if you bought it ?
What if you own more than the storage capacity?
Please post instead of sending a pm, so more can learn.

As far as I know, on the ATV4, the 64GB is for apps and games. Not to store movies or TV. If you rent a movie, you have 48 hrs to watch after you start watching it and you stream regardless of whether you rent or buy.

DH, I mentioned that I thought it was sharper on the ATV4K app than on the Samsung app so we are in agreement. However, there was jitter in the sweeping panoramic scenes as the cars raced down the mountain. On the Samsung app, it is perfectly smooth.

Was just comparing Blacklist 4K from Netflix on Samsung vs ATV4K. The differences are smaller than on Star Trek Discovery, but the ATV4K has less noise overall than the Samsung app.

I also compared it to the 1080p version from the Apple Store, which I bought before it was released on Netflix. It's a very good 1080p stream, as with most Apple Store purchases, but the 4K version on either the Samsung app or ATV4K beats it hands down on contrast, sharpness & color.

I’ve been so happy with the AppleTV my wife is using on the Sony ZD9 that I ended up getting a second one - this time a 64GB version from JB Hifi.

I know there’s only games and apps that will use up the storage but the price delta is so small it doesn’t seem a big deal.

My Media room is linked only with a HomePlug AV2 to the main (ADSL) modem. So I wasn’t sure if I could handle 4K on Amazon Prime.

Turned out - it could! Waiting for next episode of Grand Tour. It’s a holiday too. Yippee so looking forward to watching it when it drops.

Hmmm... ATV4K has a Tidal app but lossless music doesn't sound good on a Samsung soundbar, but wait, it auto paired to my Airpods! Pretty slick device.

One thing I noticed is how sensitive the ATV is to cables.

On my old 1080p plasma the ATV worked fine with my old Gefen HDMI. But with the ZD9 at full HDR 4K I kept getting video drop outs.

So I swapped in a cable from my Oppo 205. Then it worked fine.

Now I’m noticing the same with my Sony 760ES with Netflix Punisher.

New firmware update for ATV 4K dynamically changes the resolution to match the content rather than force everything into 4K HDR. I've turned it on and Amazon Prime Video in 4K seems to look better.

When was the new firmware update? I thought it was already there.

I did like the match frame rate

For some reason, it didn't update for me until yesterday. But I read that it was put in in December.

There’s supposed to be a new firmware update that works with the Dolby Vision update which puts more processing on the source rather than display.

The first to implement this is the Sony ZD9 firmware released in the US in January. Apparently AppleTV works now in Dolby Vision with the Sony.

Sadly the ZD9 firmware is not out yet in Australia
