guys, not getting HDR 4k when watching YouTube on Apple TV 4k, any idea what needs to be done? Quite strange. it seems the HDR metadata not kicking in on HDR channels when watching YouTube on my set of apple TV 4k

That's because Apple refused to use VP9 codec which is a de facto codec used by Youtube for 4K HEVC encoding + HDR.

You can use Chromecast ultra or switch to Nvidia Shield TV 4K for HDR on Netflix as well as YouTube.

Supposedly the Youtube app has returned to the Firestick 4K after Amazon and Google patched things up. Wonder if that might do HDR properly. Was only USD25 during Prime Day.

Hehe, just got my apple TV 4k. Playing Netflix Dolby 5.1 will come out as PCM.

Have you guys try manual set avr to upmix pcm to neural:x or dolby surround?
I was playing back and forth and can't really tell the difference with pcm and neural. Maybe abit la the front seems higher.

Will we be losing any audio by up mixing?
Referring to Netflix 5.1 content only.

Alos I can't do a AB test with my Sony x700 Netflix which output the audio in dobly 5.1.
Now not sure which is better since atmos is so limited in Netflix Sg.

AppleTV has a “for dummies” setting.

DD5.1 gets decoded to PCM5.1

Atmos gets sent as bitstream.

Just look for in-house Netflix productions.

Altered Carbon is definitely Dolby Vision and Atmos.

yes, other than atmos, everything else is PCM.
so i use AVR to upmix the PCM back to dolby surround, will this affect any sound quality?

Here you can also do VR now with YouTube

Apart from watching 4k HDR , improving from YouTube , there is also 8k 60fps HDR material, HLG on YouTube as well

If we cast using airplay, will the resolution be affected? Or it will follow the full HD or 4k stream?
