I'm very surprised even after almost one full year...Apple still refused to allow VP9 decoding for playback of Youtube 4K clips...I don't get it...VP9 codec is a royalty free codec which does not require Apple to pay licensing for...Why Apple still wanna stick to the HEVC H.265 codec decoding is really a head-scratcher to me!!!

I have recently jumped on to the Apple TV 4K streaming. I am rather impressed with the PQ of the 4K UHD titles from iTunes movies. While I am tempted to purchase it in its digital form, I have also read about Apple deleting iTunes movies which were purchased by users w/o notifying the users citing the reason that Apple is but a store front selling a service on behalf of movie studios that support Apple iTunes movies but beyond their control when the movie studios decide to pull out the digital copy of that movie you already purchased from the region your purchased. While it does make sense that Apple has no control over movie studios decision. It is disconcerting to learn that if you purchase something, it is not yours to own...(no pun intended for the recent HDB and the lease period on our little sunny Island).

Probably it will not have an impact on more newer titles but for older titles which can be a keeper probably not advisable to purchase imo...I will like to hear your views regarding this...

Welcome to the club bro
Do note that when you buy from different regions, bear in mind that the format (Atmos or plain 5.1) as well as whether it's 4k will differ. Eg when I bought "Gravity" from the SG itunes store, it's not Atmos.
The best sound formats come from the US iTunes store, but you can't use a local Credit Card.

Updated :)

BTW as a HT connoisseur, do you feel there's a difference between lossy Atmos on a Apple TV vs lossless tracks from a BR disc?
