Contratiempo - The Invisible Guest (2016)
« on: August 09, 2017, 09:58 »

I just saw a suspense thriller Contratiempo (The Invisible Guest) last night. Brilliant! Didn't see the ending coming that left our jaw on the floor. Even the missus enjoyed the crazy head trip. We were throwing hypotheses around as we ogled at the screen. Got some of the guesses right, but it didn't rob us of the joy of the execution. This is the type of story that resembles a perfect storm. The principals just needed to do the first thing right, but they don't and had to tell one lie followed by endless lies just to cover it all up. It is also about consequences of actions. Love the Rashomon-resque narrative which gives it a fresh spin. Superb writing. I am not going to post any synopsis because the movie works best not knowing WTF it is. You certainly don't see Hollywood coming out with something so intelligent nowadays.

Go see it, I implored you.

Saw Badla last night. It is the Hindi remake of The Invisible Guest by Sujoy Ghosh (Kahaani). Other than switching the gender of the two main roles, it stays faithful to the original. But I have to say Amitabh Bachchan is a superb actor, he can just elevate a scene simply by being in it.
