Didn't realise this show has its own thread. Good time to bump it up since it's has been renewed for a 2nd season by Fox.

I haven't watched any yet... but apparently got panned by most critics though.

I'm already into episode 3 of this! All in a day! Was expecting the same old kind of slapstick comedy from Macfarlane imported into a Trek clone series but wow I'm pleasantly surprised that The Orville runs pretty close to original Trek philosophies...after those silly jokes of course...a very worthy and light-hearted companion show to STD!

I meant Star Trek Discovery  ;D

Watched the first episode last night.

It was obviously written by a fan. Not quite the levels of Blue Harvest but still enjoyable. We thought some of the scenes felt more like old Star Trek than Discovery :D

Just binge watched all current episodes… Pretty good! For a Seth show, the humour is a lot more subtle than I was expecting, which is a good thing ;D.

Watched the first episode last night.

Charlize Theron!!! WOW!!

Not surprising it's a lot more like ST:TNG than Discovery or Galaxy Quest... have you noticed the episode Directors? Brannon Braga, Johnathan "No.1" Frakes, Jon Favreau... all the ST veterans! And looks like Seth is roping in all his buddies for guest cameo appearances… holy smokes!… Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, Rob Lowe... Curious to see who else turns up  ;D

Based on the recommendations here, I started watching this show. Now at episode 3.

Nice, lighthearted show. It's a bit ironic that this "comedy" seems to have a higher budget than Marvel's Inhumans.
Can see they took a lot of effort to create the sets and costumes, unlike Inhumans which looks like a High School project.

Also love the subtle moral dilemmas they insert into the plot.

Just caught the S2 Premier last night and glad it is just a few days away to its normal timeslot.

It’s not the strongest of plots and this episode is less TNG than before but the main characters have grown on me so it’s easy to watch. The only characters that haven’t really been fleshed out are the pilot and the navigator.

Took me a while to figure out who Jason Alexander was playing.

The jazz standards - remind me of Darren in DS9. I even bought Darren’s album many years ago. I just wish they’d included all the different renditions of I’ll Be Seeing You that he attempted when Nog was in mourning. There was a slower version that I really loved and eventually found in Sinatra’s Point if No Return.

Episode 2. Seems low budget.

Potential spoilers

There is a grander ST theme story and a personal almost Family Guy type story.

Seems like a lot more focus on the latter. When I would have preferred the former.

Apparently the grander ST stories didn’t fare too well in the ratings stake in S1. Shame.

The Orville's "Planetary Union" doesn't appear to have an equivalent of ST's "Prime Directive"... Guess it allows Seth to be a lot more flexible with his plots :)

Spoiler alert

Captain’s holiday is always a fun thing in Star Trek. No different here. A tad predictable once it happened. Has shades of other Star Trek episodes. Will be sad to see the guest star disappear. Seemed a wasted potential. Could have been fun to see the dynamics of double dating.

Wow, she's rumoured to be Charlie Puth's main squeeze!  :o... I can see why, she very cute!  :-*

Yeah, kinda reminds me of the Piccard - Famke Janssen episode :)

I'm guessing it won't be the last we'll see of "Janel'.

I’d agree the Orville is excellent, light entertainment, but I disagree that ST:D is crap… it’s just a lot heavier but a new classic nonetheless I feel.  :P

I can now understand why the first few episodes of S2 are relatively low budget. Wait till you get to this week's episode where I think the 80% of the budget went.

Not that anything is wrong in a low budget episode. TNG used to do this a lot - and still had great stories. Orville did this too with the first few episodes of the season.

But this big budget two parter really does pay off. Won't say too much except that I really love this episode even more.

For the record, there is nothing wrong with STD as a TV or even scifi show. I just don't find myself as compelled to watch each episode as it comes out - and I didn't have the same glee or anticipation as when I watched TNG or DS9 - and now with Orville. I devour each episode as it becomes available. STD is definitely a ST2009 era ST - which I also enjoyed for its more modern /darker flavor.

Been catching up on Discovery and have to say I do like the latest Red Angel arc

But Friday night - gave the missus the choice. Discovery or Orville.

We chose Orville.

And what an amazing episode.

Leighton Meester

Also best Gordon episode to date.

I loved twin Kelly. It reminds of an episode from Next Generation - Second Chances with Thomas Riker.
