Audio system for car
« on: March 27, 2017, 13:33 »
Just got a new ride ( a Subaru XV), and sad to say, the audio sounds terrible. No clarity, wooly bass....just terrible. The thing is, I know nuts about car audio. I think the head unit is pretty decent, so should I change speakers? What's a good car speaker to consider, and how much can I expect to pay? Possible to get something decent for around $300 for new speakers? Thanks in advance!

I recommend Far East Auto.
Let them have a look and work around your budget.
Upper Changi Road, near Eunos MRT.

For $300 abit tight.

For my previous ride, got meself the focal tweeter and woofer for about $500. (front and back)

but decided to add the pioneer flat subwoofer under the passanger seat.

Total about $800 including labor.

did not change the headunit cos using the Fiio player plugged directly into the AUX.

But now all belongs to the new owner as i didnt dekit when sold the ride.  ;D

Frankly $300 better u put up with the stock audio and use that money bring family for a nice meal.

Minimum $1k or more ... jap cars different from conti .... need to sound-proof the doors after fixing the speakers .... a decent Focal component speaker set RRP $400 not inclusive labour charges .... since is suv better to have sub @ the back too plus power amps ....

Alternative would be see any wrx or impreza cars dekitting for sale/scrap buy their speakers then fix in JB

like home audio, it's a slippery slope.

Most shops offer some form of basic package. Ask them for recommendation and use that as a reference for base amt to spend, then depending on if you have more budget or not and adjust accordingly.

Upgrade to kickers tweeters which are plug and play and can DIY.
If still not enough, upgrate the 6.5 speakers to kickers too, plug and play.

Which is optional at usa market.
Also diy my door sound proof, my ears not good. Lol

Bro, got to disappoint you. Its a 5 channel. 4 channels for Front and 1 for the Hertz subwoofer also to let go.

I wished I have all the time I used to have, I will volunteer to help you with the DIY task. I miss those days. The satisfaction cannot be measured.

Looking for power amp but need to figure out the pre out connection first.
Do not mind adding a under seat woofer with added amp.

Wow thanks for all the input! For car, I'm really not asking it to sound like my setup at home. I'll be happy enough if I can get it to sound like my $30 Audio Technica Sports 2 earphones! Everything is reasonably well defined, no wooly bass, singer doesn't sound like she got cold....you get the jist. If I wanna hear good audio, I'd rather be at home rather than descending down another slippery slope which I have already done with my setup at home  ;)

I guess I'll just have to look around and see what's available. Thanks for all the feedback!
