A cassette comeback?, I doubt it but that just applies to where I am in the world, other places may be different. There's a little interest from teens and hipsters here but not a lot. I suspect it's partly the novelty aspect and partly the involvement with a physical medium. I think most of the new releases here cater for those customers and perhaps also to listeners looking for some nostalgia. It's cheap and cheerful compared to other analogue sources and will probably retain a small market for a while for that reason alone.
Will it make it back to it's place in our hifi set ups as in days gone by? I rather doubt that too. I'd have to say I've heard cassettes sounding VERY good but not everyone has a 3 head dual capstan dolby B,C & S machine and metal tape to hand (certainly not me, my machines and tapes went a long time ago). I think most of us would be just as happy with a WAV/FLAC or other lossless file simply for the conveience. I don't rule out the idea of me finding a good deck, recapping it and then hunting down some good tapes but it would just be for the Hell of it and that's all.
I think it will retain a niche position for quite a while and may well outlive CDs but other than that I don't think we'll see much change in popularity in the near future. Some technologies just die and fade into obscurity but I see cassettes as being happily retired and enjoying memories of past glories.
I may, of course, be totally wrong  ;)

Has anyone seen blank cassette tapes still being sold locally?

Thanks.
